No, you do not need insurance. My BMW sits in a storage unit uninsured and perfectly legal.

I agree with the ones who says yes especially since you're not storing it in a locked garage but an open active driveway. What happens if someone hits your car? or if someone steals your car? You have no insurance and you're out of whatever money you paid for the car. This is aside from the fact that most states require you to show "proof of financial responsibility" in the form of insurance when registering a car in your name. If you don't have money for insurance, don't buy a car. Wait until you do. This way, if anything happens to your car, you have sufficient coverage to get back at least the book value of your car, and you can start over.

Depends on which State you live in. Florida requires insurance and valid plates on any vehicle on your property. The reason was to stop people from having junk cars sitting on their property. This appied even if it was out of sight (behind a fence etc). If reported, you had 3 days to comply or remove the vehicle.

It is ideal for you to insure your vehicle for many of the reasons listed above and....

Most states have financial responsibility laws that require you to have your vehicle insured to get a license, registration or title.

You're always better off safe than sorry.

Goodluck!
