Because when we asked questions about God in "Cats" it didn't seem appropriate.

Because as atheists, they are interested in the topic, although from an outsiders point of view. That is, people who dislike something may nevertheless be interested in discussing it.
We are often asked whether atheism is a "religion." My answer is that to the extent zero is a number, atheism is a religion. And as your math teacher told you zero IS a number; a very important one. It is necessary to have the background on which the figure can be discerned.
You see, an atheist is not necessarily indifferent. He is not declaring that it does not matter whether or not there is a god. He is declaring that there is no god, which to him is a positive statement. That is, there is no judge who is going to throw you into a lake of fire, there is no entity to whom you can plead for help on your exam when you have not studied. You are on your own.
Then there are people who have a religion, or a spiritual belief, who also feel you are on your own. Many pagans are of this type, and here I include myself. For me, the term is Thelema: the law that you are completely responsible for your own actions, and all the consequences of those actions, whether intended or unintended.

I'm an agnostic and this is my first time browsing the religion section. But to answer your question, I think it's because part of being so certain that god does or doesn't exist is wanting to convince other people of that. As an agnostic, I don't care either way, and as such I rarely talk about it on Yahoo, except when accused of being one or the other.

For me:
To see what others believe... Because I enjoy some of the others who come to this section... For a good laugh now and again.. Etc.
Being Atheist doesn't mean someone isn't spiritual...

As has been said, Atheism is a spiritual stance. Don't think atheism has been easy for most people, most atheists here were not born into atheist families or raised in atheist communities, atheism took time to develop in most of us because we thought, and read, for the most part, about religion and compared it to what we knew in our cognitive faculties and what we experienced empirically, and then, what we learnt from science and history. Religion is actually interesting to most atheists, interesting enough that we actively challenge the concept of God and the lack of evidence in faith and dare those who are of faith to prove us wrong. I would love you to prove me wrong, i dare say, many atheists would love there to be a divine loving god and for us to be shown him, but hey, it's a fantasy, and we can prove it. Watch us

To get a kick out of stupid questions.
One Christian girl one asked a question on here if it was OK to have anal sex with her boyfriend because she was waiting till marriage to have sex because the bible said so.
Another girl claimed her Christian friend loved a man 25 years older than her (she was 23, he was 48) who at one time was a pimp.
Of course these questions were deleted, but that is some of the funniest stuff I have ever read.

Because the category is "Religion & Spirituality", not "Believers in Religion & Spirituality". In any category you will find people on both sides of an issue. Why shoud this category be any different?

well i went looking for god but all i found was people perpetuating the belief by talking to each other and reading the bible as the true word of god.its a form of brainwashing.
never saw proof of anything. and now i come here to remember how i used to think about god.it kind of validates my current state of mind.but athiesm is not a religion.i dont have rules or guidlines i have to follow or worry about commiting a "sin".just be a normal, decent human being who respects other people and thier beliefs no matter how much you may not belive what they believe.

Your insight is rather shallow. Spirituality knows no leader and is not owned by anyone. I may be atheist but am very spiritual and your comments only spread ignorance about that.

I can only speak for myself . Because I do not believe in the same way you do . Does not mean I should disregard it . We can learn from many sources . I believe there is a lot to be learned from the bible the Koran even ancient scripture from Hindu and Buddhist's beliefs . You might say I believe in humanity .
