Well the guy in the North is a little loony but not quite enough to try a "1950" attack. The South Korean military is pretty dang good and they have been well trained by us. We have more than enough capability in the South to handle him and win. He knows that and that's why they maintain the status quo. Right now his strategy is make a lot of noise and then wait for handouts from us. Then he goes back to his corner and sucks on his thumb some more and then cries again. And, also, he knows that if he starts something that China will probably not step in to save him like they did for his daddy.

I think you have either forgotten, or never knew it, but North and South Korea are STILL at war. There is only a cease fire in place that both sides have respected.....to date. If a shot is fired, it would NOT be considered a new war, but a violation of the cease fire agreement. Troops positioned and standing watch at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) are not there because North and South are at peace with one another.
North Korea may have a seemingly crazy leader, but I don't think he is stupid.
I am with CWOMO! He is just crying to get attention. He agrees to do this, we do that, and he shuts the hell up....until he wants something else.
With China's industry trying to move up to gain status in the world (if they quit trying to shortcut everything), I don't think they have the stomach to wage war to help out North Korea. China could stand to lose a lot of what they have gained. Could China afford to convert factories to support a war effort when they are pretty much pushing at 100% in the civilian goods areas...(for lack of the proper term for it)?
This would leave North Korea's butt to cash the check that it's big mouth wrote.

They are down to one division I believe, and they always had 2 when I was there twice. Back then it was the 7th Infantry and the 1st Cav, who later switched patches with the 2ND Infantry Division and was trained at Benning to be Air Mobile and sent to Vietnam!"We Were Soldiers" is an account of a unit trained by Lt Col Hal Moore who led his men into the 1st major battle with the NVA in a place called The Valley of death, or la Drang Valley!
I think Moore did 3 tours and was killed on 9/11 in the trades collapse!
Even with 2 Divisions, we always knew that all we could do was slow them down long enough to get help!
My 1st tour was in the 1st Cav area, or around the 38th parallel! We knew we were dead meat if they ever came across. We had all the artillery from both divisions in range of the dividing line! I was next to Custers old outfit, the 7th Cav!
Anyway, we are already at "war" with North Korea as there is but a truce that has been in place since the eraly 1950's! The biggest thing stopping them I believe was China!
And it doesn't look like anything will be happening soon as N Korea stopped their nuke plant! We have been in a state of war in Korea for 53 years!
If they came across it really isn't going to matter much how many divisions are there unless it was 4 or 5!

If you look through history, every time something heats up in the mid. east, the N.Koreans get more rowdy. However, we've been at this current war for awhile now, and nothing has happend in Korea.
BTW we have several bases in Korea, and elsewhere, so there are plans, and the N.Koreans know it.

No! If you haven't been paying attention there has been progress in relations there. North Korea does not want war, there food would be cut off and their people as well as their million military would starve.

Doubtful.
Seems like both North and South Korea have finally learned that they can get on fine without the Americans...
And maybe, just maybe, we can bring our troops home from there.
