If someone has an abortion, do they feel depressed and any other feelings afterwards? This isn't about whether it's right or wrong, just curious how someone feels afterwards

guilty, emotionally riddled with what ifs...depressed, what did I do? This is from several people I know that have had abortions...some Christian some not...Also they all have told me every time they see a baby or child that is around the same age as the baby that was aborted was they wonder what if....one woman's child would have been almost 40 and she still wonders what he would have looked like.

I think it depends on the person's feelings going into the procedure. I had an abortion when I was in my early twenties (as a result of birth control failure and the fact that I was on drugs that would have caused birth defects in the baby), and afterwards I primarily felt relief that it was over. I had no particular "what if?" thoughts at the time and felt no regret, since as far as I was (and am) concerned what I had aborted was not a human being but a bundle of cells with the potential to become human.

Each person who has an abortion is an individual and each has different feelings from happiness and relief to depression and sadness depending on the person and the reasons for having the abortion..

Not every person having an abortion will have the same feelings it's not that simple and clear cut..

I've never had one but my sister did. She had a serious back injury and then found out she was pregnant. The doctor told her "if you have this baby you will end up in a wheelchair". I know it was a very difficult decision to make and that she still has guilt about it even years later. She felt that since she had 2 small children already, it was the lesser of two evils.

yes, it is very common to feel depressed after having an abortion. I've never had one myself, so I can't really say how I would feel in that situation. I think its one of those things where you don't know how it will affect you until you are actually in that situation.

Many of my friends got abortions and trust me, no woman has ever gone through it without serious trauma (most of the time subconsciously). Most women see this trauma after they have children for the first time and the motherly instinct becomes dominant in them.

It depends upon the woman and circumstances. That's why the decision can and should ONLY be HERS, without interference. Many women are very relieved afterwards.
