avg joe- nobody has ever made a calendar as accurate as that one, in there time there was absolutly no technology and yet there calendar is only off one day every 380,000 years, and with all the globle warming that we have now i wouldnt be surprise if the poles shift causing us to enter the 13 world which is the end of times

*Is Catholic*
Been watching the History Channel huh? Saw the same program.
I think it will be neat being alive when the earth crosses the galactic plane. I know enough about electromagnetism to know that crossing over could do something. There is no way to know either as we have been close to the field lines since before there was recorded history.
As for the date 12 21 2012, the solstice do not mesh with anything in Catholicism, off the top of my head. I do not see the signs that we are coming near to the end.
That said, remember Christ himself is the eschaton, and if you are going to Mass and being a Catholic, you are already living your life in the last days, and during Mass you are stepping into eternity. Just pray and keep on working out your salvation in fear and trembling of the Lord, as St. Paul says. Let the end come when the Father wills it.

It will end according to what word of God (the bible)says. I believe that there has to be a physical rebuilding of a third temple in order for prophetic scripture to be fulfilled. This is to happen at some point during the 7 year tribulation time period. Currently there is no temple being built so even if things were to begin in 2008 and whether construction started then or it begins 3 1/2 year later you still have 3 1/2 or full 7 years for the full tribulation time to be fulfilled that would put us past the 2012 date by at least 3 years. I still think the Mayan calendar date indicates that things will dramatically change though. The important thing is that we have heart to heart relationship with God and have asked Jesus into our hearts repent and forsake our sins so we escape being cast into hell.

This planet is going to vanish in about 5billion years when the Sun expands and cooks it. The Mayans had a calendar that ended in December 2012. I have one on my wall that ends in December 2007. I'll get another one for 2008. The Mayans would have produced another but they all died out before they could.
The Christians have been predicting the end of the world for a little under 2000 years. I won't hold my breath waiting for it.

oh yeah...that Mayan calendar thing has freaked me out. I have not planned anything past 2012. why bother?? on the other hand, I'm going with the fact that they eradicated themselves before they could finish their calendar to what might be forever. I guess we will know in 5 years - right.

a) Christians and Maya have little to do with each other.
b) the Maya calendar does not end, it is the end of a baktun.
A new Baktun starts, except that if you're going to make big stone calendars you are not expected to carve them for infinity. It was a spiritually significant date for the Maya but certainly not the end of the world.
And which "dates that actually happened" are you talking about?

i think 2012 is too early..
well of course there are several things happened that shows its the end of the world.
As long as Dajjal haven't showed up, Imam Mahadi as well as Prophet Isa haven't come down yet and saved human who believe in Allah... it is not yet the end of the world.
What will happened if 2012 this world still exist?
On what facts did the churches claimed 2012 is the date?Jesus said ONLY GOD KNOWS when the time will come.

My Mom is Christian. And my husband's brother is a Pentecostal pastor. Neither of them have a belief in the Mayan calendar---why would they?

I believe it will happen in God's time. We are not meant to know when the end will come. I don't think anyone can accurately say it is coming soon. We cannot manipulate or predict these things.

The only likely thing that will ever happen is that we will eventually get hit by a large chunk of space rock which will radically change life on this planet.... again.

if it happens, it happens. I wouldnt worry about it because everyone swore the world was coming to an end the year 2000 and nothing happened. Live everyday like it's your last.
