Depends on a lot of things. Open it and see.

It really depends completely on the wine and te temperatures it was kept at. Really anything over 70 degrees f. is bad for the wine, so hopefully it didn't get over that temperature. Most red wine is suggested to be kept at 55 degrees f. If the temp did get over 70 and under freezing the only to do really is open it and hope it's good. One other thing is that wine made out of berries may not keep as long especially in temperatures that are constantly going up and down. Good luck and who knows maybe the wine is still good...I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

The only way you can find out is to open it up. Even the
most expensive wines kept in a perfectly run wine cellar
has a chance to go bad. Check out the cork, is it dried
out??? then the wine may have oxidized. Until you open
it up and smell it (if it smells vinegary, its gone) and give
it a taste, you just don't know. One of my friends found
an old bottle of rose petal wine and when he opened it,
it had gone all sparkly, like chanpagne... I have a bottle
of Cabernet from 1989 that we keep thinking of opening,
but not yet... either it will be incredibly well aged or totally
undrinkable. It wasn't properly stored when we found it
so the odds are against us, but one of these days we will
open it up and see.

It must have already gone bad. wines are supposed to be kept upside down, The wine in the bottle should always touch the cork otherwise the cork will dry up and lead to oxidation which will make the wine unfit for drinking.

If I were you, I would dump it. It's just not worth taking the chance. If you have the need to drink a bottle of wine, go to your local wine store or if you are still in contact with your relative, tell a little white lie and say something like "remember that wonderful bottle of wine you gave me six years ago.....Do you think you can send me another just like it." and then don't wait another 6 years to drink it.

Yes it needs to be stored in room tempature no more then 70 degrees and hot weather outside will spoil the wine and it's flavors.

If it is kept under 50°C
no problem
old wine is a good quality wine
it may increased the % of alcohol

if it wasn't opened before then it should be good. the older wine is the better taste. at least that's what people say. and if it's home made then the older it is the more alcohol % will be in it.
