At the onset of it? In the middle of it when things are getting pretty bad? When doing it yourself is simply not an option? or before it happens?
I wish I could say before, but I'm not that proactive.

when i am stuck, or when i see in advance that i simply can not do it by myself.
This attitude was an issue when i started to work, i often got remarks that i should ask for help earlier. The art is to find a balance between asking too much and asking nothing.

I usually let people (mostly my husband) know I am about to do something and might need help before I start.. Then as I go along if I need help he already has a heads up that I might be calling..

If it's something that more fluid I call when I get to a point I need help..

I like to consider myself a very independant person, so for me, my ego does not allow me to ask for help until things tend to get so hopeless that i feel as though i have no other options.
This is not to my advantage, I know, it is a sense of pride that hinders me and my usefullness to others. So i have to continue to ask that it be removed from my thinking and make an effort to change this behavior.

I only ask for help if I have hit a wall and realize I need help. Otherwise I prefer being self sufficient.

When the people that I trust the most tell me I need help. When "more than one" of my trusted family and friends says something, I give a shout.

I ask for help only when I feel I cannot do anything else myself. Therefore, I have asked for help very few times in my life.

Usually when I grew tired of driving around & listening to my ex-wife say for the 500th time, "will you please stop and ask for directions!" Trouble is, every time I stopped no one would take her! LOL
