well according to the literal bible, there was only like 75 descents from adam to jesus, give or take. they had to pack on at least a couple years worth of life span.

those who do claim that the universe was created after 4,000 B.C.E. place the creation of the earth around 1,000 years AFTER the sumerians invented glue (a point recently illuminated by author sam harris).

I'm a Creationist and I agree with you that this makes no sense at all and doesn't solve anything. 6000 years? What's the difference between that and 6 days? Nothing can really evolve that much in 6,000 years. Jeez. It's either 6 days or billions of years. And if people will now say that 6 bliion years could equal 6 days, then once again, good point. Maybe then God started real days up then, once he got the sun involved. I really think there's some decent evidence that it could have been just 6 days., call me crazy or not. There is evidence for both creationism and evolution and neither have been proven wrong. If you are going to believe in a God who can do anything and said he did, why not go all out?

Sure Adam lived to be near 1000 yrs old. All the people back then lived long lives. One creationist I spoke with thinks that the earth once had a layer of water outside our current atmosphere, creating a hyperbaric chamber on earth, causing people to live longer and grow larger than we do now. He says that is what caused the flood. The water from that layer of the atmosphere fell to earth.

I cannot other than to say that I am personally sceptical of that. I had read in one of the answers here somewhere that even the American Bible Society concedes that what is in Genesis may have been passed down by word of mouth by the bedouins who ultimately became the Hebrews (the dreaded Apiru of some ancient Canaanite tablets, which were desperate appeals to Egypt for help) and as anyone who has played "telephone" knows, stories change when passed down by word of mouth.
Legends.

Adam was in the Garden as a spiritual being long before that spiritual creation was placed in a physical body. The seventh day for God never ended if you think about it. God's rest is in the seventh ours in the eighth day. The seventh day was set for our physical rest and a type of our eternal rest.
So Adam was in the garden as a spiritual being for unknown time. As a physical being we have no idea how long he and the woman lived in the garden before the fall. The 930 years is from the fall and not from the "day" of the spiritual creation when man was created in God's spiritual image.

If you go back to the original translation (sorry, don't know what language it was--either Aramic, Hebrew, or Greek), it is obvious that when the text says one day is a literally one day. The majority of the Christians I know do not believe in the 6000 yeary theory.

I have no idea how long Adam and Eve lived and it does not matter at all to me. I know the world was created by God, and that's all I need to know. Why cause strife?

in the original language hebrew one day meant just that. one day = 24 hrs
everything God did and thru the power of the holy spirit revealed to us thru the Bible is for our personal understanding, training, warning and encouragement.
so God showed the normal routine of work and rest required for the body and soul he created. everything was created for man to live in the earth. just like an expectant mom prepares the baby room well before the baby arrives and stocks it with everything a baby will need.
The word of God, the Bible says it is 6 days creation and we are to accept it. we are not to accept the attempts at explaining away of the so called scientific theories of millions of yrs etc. it is being proved that the theory of evolution and big bang are incorrect. we are trying to prove things we think is comfortable. things are much more simple than accidental evolution etc. God the almighty (one who is able to do everthing, even the impossible ) created everything in the heavens and the universe as we know.

Actually, modern man (the first Adam, so to speak ) appeared on earth about 60,000 years ago. Their multiplication is a tad off, but isn't that amazing? The article says that is only 2,000 generations that separate us from him.
