They also contradict the bible by having the sabbath on Sunday when it is in fact Saturday. Are Christians making their God unhappy?

The first chapter does not say God created the earth a few thousand years ago. The earth is assumed to already exist before the 6 days. The days must be some kind of God's days - the 24 hour day is not created until the fourth day when the sun and moon are created as a sign for the 24 hour day. The genealogies add up to about 50,000 years for humans - not 6000. Genealogies have nothing to do with the age of the earth anyway. The Bible does not give an age for the earth and universe - only that they are very old. (2 Peter 3:5, Psalm 90:2 & 102:25, Proverbs 8:22-23, Ephesians 1:4, etc.)

Actually, it's pretty simple. Regardless of how long the days may or may not have been in Genesis, in Exodus 20:9-10 it says
"Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work..."
So the reason that more-than-6-days sabbath-keepers keep the sabbath is because it is a command from God. These verses are pretty clear. They are not contradicting themselves by doing so.

God rested on the seventh day. It is still day seven for God if you stop and think about it. This day is now thousands of years long!!
The Lord's day in Revelation is not the Sabbath but that day when God puts all things under his feet. As a type of the eternal the seventh day, as you think of it, was established for our physical needs. It also points to that day, when like God, we will rest from our labors.

Remember, the Bible contains foreshadowings as well as fulfillments and 'codas'. Not only are there 24 hour Sabbaths, but we are currently living in Christ's Sabbath, which has already lasted some 2000 years. It's not contradiction. It's imagery.

The days of the rising and setting sun were natural for people to work their lives in this cycle, especially before the advent of the electric light. But that doesn't necessarily prove that God created everything in 7 days. The earliest versions of Genesis in other languages other than English, don't use "day" but "eons."
The 7 days were a liturgical cycle.

You know what, it does mean 7, 24 hour days in the bible. That's what it's suppose to be. The Christians who say that are trying to get their book validated. Oh well yes, but we don't know if it means 7, 24 hour days. Yes, that's what it means, and stop trying to validate your book through science because it won't work. Back in the say, people thought that and probably couldn't concive how old the earth was.

the week of creation was in God's time. The time we keep here on planet earth is a 24 hour day in human time. The verses are perfectly clear to me as well.

There are two types of Christians: those who interpret those words as literal days, and those who interpret those words as figuratively.
Those who think that the word "days" are figures for "a thousand years" (Bible: "For the Lord, a day is like a thousand days, and a thousand days are like a day") simply reason out that one day a week is simply necessary to remember the Sabbath time period. For them, it is merely a symbolism thing.

In answer to insighthere...yes the sabbath was on saturday and is still viewed as so in the Jewish faith. However in the Christian faith it is celebrated on sunday in honor of Jesus returning to life after his crucifixion
