To learn peoples' view on various religions and beliefs and to educate myself of various topics discussed and to be a part of the discussion.

I come here because the subject is fascinating and all religions are interesting. I have been reading the Koran lately and I read a lot of Buddhist teachings, especially Thich Nhat Hanh.

I just like knowing how other people live and think. I'm kind of nosey really. I wish I could believe in a God but I don't.

I come here for many reasons.

I am lonely. I am looking for other people who understand and look at the world the same way that I do. There really aren't that many around.

I come here to teach. I don't claim to be 'enlightened' or in any other way special, but I do have a unique take on the subject of spirituality and I feel I am at a point in my journey where I am ready to share it with other people.

I come here to learn. They say 'If you really want to learn, teach'. Nothing makes you take a good long look at your opinions like having to explain them to someone else.

I come here to grow. One of the major issues in my life right now is "why to I deny myself?". For many years I have been reluctant to share my spiritual beliefs with others and I realized recently that it is part of the same issue. I have been, at least in certain ways, denying my own journey and my own spirituality. This is a way for me to accept more fully the spiritual nature of my life.

I come here to help people. Many of question here really have nothing to do with spirituality or religion, and are rather childish really, but once in a while I find a true seeker with a legitimate question and if I can help them to grow as spiritual beings then my time sifting through silly questions is well spent.

There are probably more reasons, but I think those are the major ones

With love,
Shane K.

I didn't know I needed a reason---good or otherwise! But I do enjoy reading everyone's posts. And I have learned some things. Also some of the questions really make me think---I like that!

Religion is a distraction from God. It's just a way to trick people. Anyway, all you have to do is believe John 3:16. As simple as that. No religion needed. Anyway, I join to prevent eternal fire and pain after I die.

Because I want to save people. I want to save everyone of the religious people on the planet from the brainwashing that controls their minds. To help people realize that religion is nothing more than myths, and must be removed from the planet. Sometimes people just need a good shake and kick in the pants to realize they are being childish and silly.
Oh, and I want to save the planet from religious people who think that they have the right to shove their religion and beliefs and morals down everyone elses throat, but do not like it when people shove back.

I started because I had a legitimate question, came into the site and saw R&S, and the rest is history. It's an indication of how people are thinking today, and a lot of it is not very good.

To help people see the light! Actually to encourage people to think for themselves. I tell them I live happily without the need to purport piety or imply that other people are bereft of morals and guidance. I neither need nor desire a god’s confirmation and forgiveness, but simply get on with life as part of civil society. I decide how to act based on the individual merits of the situation or task.
Atheist/agnostic lifestyle acknowledges that capable human beings are ultimately responsible for their own actions. The ingenuity, logic and wisdom developed over eons refuted the need to bow to the overreaching and nonsensical rationale of doctrine. It should be one’s own decision to be a good person and not a decision formed due to the promise of fanciful reward or the threat of eternal damnation. Those who act out according to the imagined commands of puppeteer gods or demons are denying that we have only to answer to ourselves, the law and those we care about. Religion is a scapegoat yet convenient lifestyle which thrives on prejudice and produces individuals who have the potential to damage other individuals or overall society all in the name of their god.

a reason - yes. A good reason? Probably not.

I like the certainty of a question and an answer. In real life the questions drag on. Here, it's type type type - sometimes serious, sometimes sarcastic, and on to the next.
