The soup is actually quite delicious if it's made right, It really is sad what they are doing to the sharks but it's considered a delicacy and it's costly and asians like to serve it at their wedding cause it shows that the family has money and good taste, when i eat the soup i actually dont eat the shark bits, i just eat rest of the soup, and i usually dont know it's shark fin soup until somebody tells me

It is really tasty and I have had it at many weddings but I wouldn't eat or make it on my own without knowing the rest of the shark had been used - I have no issue with Thresher shark fin since the whole is consumed but just "harvesting" the fin is a waste of an animal and not good for the fishing environment.

Shark population has been steadily declining due to the popularity of this soup in Asia, especially China.
It is also very cruel to the shark.
I heard that Yao Ming does some sort of an anti-Shark's fin campaign in China.

I am all about shark's fin. I've had it ever since I was a kid, and the stuff is quite amazing.
I know that it's morally suspect and such, but it's meant to be a delicacy. The "wow" value of shark's fin in China isn't going to stop anyone from harvesting shark's fin, since it's considered a must-have at weddings, birthdays, etc. I might not approve of the way that they are harvested, but I have no objection to eating it. It just tastes waaaay too good. It's like the foie gras debate, but I'm still eating it. I'm sorry, but good food is just too good......

It's really good though. Most restaurant in US and A don't even use real shark fin.

shouldn't, because the fins are cut & the rest of the shark is thrown out & wasted! it's not only cruel, but ecologically wrong.
