It has been several minutes and too much time has passed to induce vomiting.
Signs your cat has ingested rat poison (which is quite common) would be lethargy, not eating, and the most obviously but often latest sign is bleeding. Can start small but eventually they will bleed from the eyes, nose, and mouth, and may cough up blood. If this happens, your cat will probably die. If you think this may be happening, you can buy some vitamin K tablets, crush them, and somehow get your cat to take them. (vitamin K is administered IV to cats at the vets office with this problem)
If your cat has swallowed antifreeze (also quite common) it will start to act drunk. It will not be able to walk straight. Your cat may recover from this by itself. Give it plenty of food and water, and keep an eye on it for worsening condition.
If your cat has ingested some other type of chemical (lawn treatment, floor cleaner, etc.) make sure it has plenty of food and water. It is likely to survive on its own.
In the future, keep poisons and animals separated!

If you can't afford a vet why on earth would you allow your cat to roam loose outside where it's more that likely going to end up sick, injured or dead? There's no "home cure" for poison nor can anyone on here magically diagnose your cat through the computer. Call your local animal shelter and see if they'll have someone look at your cat and work out a payment plan for the visit.

I understand about costs for a vet...my vet charges $75 just to walk in the door...the emergency vet costs $95 just for a vist. That does not include any work that may need to be done.
Some vets DO NOT accept payments...they want payment in full which can put people who really care about their pet and want to do the best for them in a very difficult place emotionally. I just took my cat to the vet because he was not eating. With 2 visits and then 3 days staying at the vets with IV's and meds, it cost me $900. And, he is not better. Call a vet and possibly they will work with you. or maybe they can suggest a clinic which might be less expensive.....Sometimes people are very quick to say you shouldn't care about the cost....but the reality is, if you don't have the money, there are no vets that will see your pet, diagnois him and then treat the animal for "free" and it's heartbreaking to the owner of the pet.....

Every poison has different symptoms, and there is nothing you can do, he must take th eantiddote before it's too late. There is no question of affording a vet or not. This is a matter of life and death. Borrow, cut down from food next week, but take it to the vet!

PLEASE people just can't afford a vets visit but that does not mean they don' love their cat any less!!!
Sometimes People can afford tho spend thousands of pounds or dollars on their pet sometimes people have to feed, clothe and house themselves -

I would give your local vet a call and explain your situation and they should offer you some advice.

I hope the kitty is alright, i have my fingers crossed for you!!!

Whatever you do, DO NOT GIVE HIM MILK! Milk is dangerous, some poisouns disolve in it. Give him water with salt to make him vomit the poison and take him to the vet ASAP. Please. Lend someoney or just take him and after the treatment leave som id at the vet office untill you come up with money. This is a desperate situation.

is he foaming at the mouth? is he drooling excessively? is he eating? is he lethargic?

my cat got slight poisoning from a floor cleaner that I had used. when the floor was still wet, he walked on it and then licked his paws. he drooled all night and part of the day. because of the drool he couldn't sleep all night. it was really sweet because he wouldn't leave me along all night. it was like he was scared and needed to be right up next to me. I encouraged him to drink water but he wouldn't eat. the water did help though. petgrass may be an option. in the wild, cats eat grass to help with digestive problems. maybe this will help. I was really worried though for my cat so I was on the phone with several vets. i gave them the run down and they offered a lot of free advice to me to help me along. in the end, it didn't require a visit to a vet at all but I consider myself lucky. if money is an issue, maybe you could call your local animal shelter to see what they could possible offer you.

good luck!!

check for barfing, abnormalniss, check his bottom, and make sure he has lots of water.if hes indoor, put a leash on him and ake him outdoors to eat grass. that will make him barf which is good.next time ur out buying food, buy cat food that builds up immune system.if your pretty sure hes gonna die(hopefully not)get him a toy or too.or make some.paperbag and catnip works.or to pieces of yarn twisted together tied to a stick and maybe put cat treats in the middle or some cheese occasionally.
