How do you feel about our border patrol having rocks thrown at them is the violence growing there?

Agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection were assaulted by people throwing rocks Sunday during the arrest of two illegal immigrants near the U.S.-Mexico border in San Luis, Ariz.

The rocks failed to strike an agent, but one did shatter the window of a marked Border Patrol vehicle, according to Albert Bosco, public affairs specialist with CBP.

The federal organization reported Monday that its agents working in the Yuma sector have experienced a 43 percent increase in assaults between Oct. 1, 2006, and June 30. A total of 122 incidents were reported during the same period of last fiscal year, compared to this fiscal year's total of 174.

The rocking-throwing incident happened around noon Sunday after agents apprehended two people who had illegally entered the U.S. While agents were taking those people into custody, individuals on the Mexico side of the international boundary fence began throwing rocks toward the agents.

Bosco said the agents were able to leave the area before becoming injured or incurring more damage to their vehicle.

In an unrelated incident later Sunday evening, a trip for a Border Patrol agent to a San Luis gas station ended with the agent helping to nab a man who had allegedly just robbed a woman.

While the agent was fueling his vehicle, a woman approached screaming that she had just been robbed on Main Street, according to an agency news statement.

The agent eventually located the suspect and detained the man. The San Luis Police Department was called and took the suspect into custody.
Wow, they threw rocks? They must have had their feelings hurt in the first place, or they would NEVER have thrown rocks. I bet the BP aggravated them. Maybe they felt threatened. Perhaps the BP guys made faces. Maybe they had their feelings hurt.

And to think - if we would have addressed the border issue decades ago, we probably wouldn't have to worry about freeloaders tossing pebbles at the BP. But the fact is, we didn't take care of it decades ago so we have a lot of catching up to do and we just need to sack up and secure the border - by any means necessary. I still think there needs to be a tower every 2-3 miles with sharpshooters in them. If Mexico gets pissed that we are shooting people trying to enter our country illegally then maybe they should address the issues as to why these people are fleeing the country by the millions. Maybe if Mexico wasn't so deeply corrupt, the millions of illegals here could help rebuild THEIR economy...what a novel idea.

And to the previous poster who stated that "the illegals have rocks and the border patrol has iron...it is hardly a fair fight...they get attacked by coyotes and died in the desert trying to cross..." WELL DON'T TRY TO CROSS THEN! WHAT DO THEY NOT GET ABOUT THAT? If all Americans are labeled racist pigs, people die trying to get here ILLEGALLY, and the border patrol "hurt their feelings" - why the hell would you want to come here?

And yeah, the BP has "iron" and get ready to see a lot more of it. See we have what is called the Second Ammendment in these great United States and yes, some people have jobs where they carry guns...

Rock-throwing is the equivalent of bricks thrown at officers during the riots in LA. It is wrong and imperils officers doing their duty. It is time to militarize our border until a secure hi-tech fence can be built. A strong, well-lit fence, with motion sensors and cameras, heavily patrolled with armed BP. BP outposts need to be established every 50 miles or so, manned and capable of rapid response to incursion attempts. The southern border needs to be secured first, then the northern one.

These are rocks not pebbles a direct hit from a rock can cause some serious damage even death.Sutton has pretty much put a stop to use of fire arms at the border.

There is a difference when a American citizen throws rocks and an illegal immigrant. It is not right either way but it adds insult to injury (no pun intended), you are not only breaking the immigration law but also committing assault. Apparently Sutton does not know the difference.

I am a Mexican and I think it is wrong. Everything that is happening is wrong....but I think it's the same as when a white or African American throws rocks or shoots a cop when pulled over or when trying to separate a fight. I think Immigrants not just Mexicans but Irish, Chinese etc. should do it the right way and become legal and not try to sneak in. Who do you have to blame besides us?...well your own people because they too are a part of bringing people in to put them to work in their businessess for small wages. It's not just us. I am here legally... Like they said who is going to build the wall? Mexicans? IT's crazy to think they are going to be able to kick every illegal out of here when they can't even fix the streets outside or take care of other small problems.

I feel that ego- maniac Sutton ought to go on patrol with our guys so he can read out of his little law books & tell them what to do, or better yet that he leads the troops on their patrols [I mean in front]. So he can tell the poor unfairly misunderstood mexican folks to be nice, & then give them a lolly pop.

The more violence there is there,the more Mexico will find out there will be a meltdown some day and then Mexico will have to addresses it's problems instead of sending them away.

You are right, if Border Patrol guys made faces, illegals would cry out and Sutton and his team would give out amnesty like candies to the illegals. BPs aren't given enough credit for what they do.
