1) you want a Dane puppy to stay on the lean side..should be able to see the last two ribs
2) NEVER feed puppy food of any kind protein & calcium levels are too high and can cause some very serious growth problems
3) NEVER give a calcium supplement
4) feed a good quality ADULT food such as Canidae All Life Stages, Chicken Soup Large Breed Adult or Regular Adult, Wellness, Innova (NOT EVO), Solid Gold, Merrick, Fromm just to nmae a few
5) it is a good idea to give a Vit. C supplement
I suggest getting the book The Great Dane Model Of Nobility by Jill Swedlow. It has a wealth of good info.
The Great Dane Lady has some good Dane info but her feeding info is a bit outdated and far more complicated then it needs to be.

Wow, Great Danes, are great dogs for a pet, they don't realize they are so large, they have a tendency to think that they are lap dogs...
Having a Great Danes comes some serious responsibilities, One this breed has special feeding needs,
As your Dane grows you need to raise their food, so that they don't have to lower their head down too far, so Elevate the food so as the danes head is almost held at shoulder height, this helps with the prevention of choking.
Second, don't allow the dane to drink water straight away after running hard. If you do, it could cause their stomach to flop, which it can kill them if immediate medical attentions isnt sought.
Most of all, while your dane is small and you can handle her/him easily, make sure you teach them not to pull you while walking on a lead.
As far as a food for their coat, I have found that though it is costly, Science Diet for large breeds is the best. It keeps their coat shiny and they don't shed as much.
I hope you have as much fun with your Dane as I have with mine.

Great Danes are prone to bloat, which is when the stomach twists around and seals itself off after the dog eats. This can cause death very quickly. Make sure you look up the signs and symptoms of bloat and know them so if your dog get it, you can recognize it.
I give my dog an Omega-3 pill every day, and it keeps his coat nice and shiny. But it's also very good for dogs, just like it is for people.
For food, I like California Naturals, but other good ones include Canidae, Nutro, or Innova.

You should be sure to feed him a good quality, large breed puppy food. Have you taken him for a wellness exam/vaccines yet? When you do, talk to your vet. They will be able to give you great advice on puppy wellness.
Great Dane puppies are sooo cute, and fun. Unfortunately, can come with some significant medical issues as they grow older. Talk to your vet and research the breed, and make sure you know what you are in for.

You're in for a treat.
Just wait to watch a 100 lb. dog try to sneak into your lap bit by bit so you don't notice.
