If there is no democracy in Iraq in 10 years from now, then the American soldiers (and coalition forces) have died in vain. I hope and pray that won't happen. The cut back in the number of American soldiers is premature. An arab democracy right now is extremely fragile. However, if there is a pull back of American forces, the following civil war won't be necessarily a bad thing is the forces for good prevail.

No they are not dying in vain. The shame of it all is that if they were allowed to defend them selves the way they could they would not be as many dying as there are. With all the advances in technology and the awesome equipment that is out there we would not need to lose many soldiers at all. However since it is politicians running this war and not the military our soldiers are not being given the best gear and they are held back by rules that limit them literally to death.

I'm torn... so Yes and No. On the one hand, I would say that NO they are not dying in vain. They are fighting for oil, democracy, and the weak... exactly in that order. Oil to feed our country's massive requirements to drive our gas guzzlin V-8s to and from the mall and to feed the electricity demands of our large televisions at home. Democracy to be spread around the entire globe because we believe that it has worked so well for us that everyone else needs to have it and is entitled to it. And finally, the weak... we fight for the weak because nobody else will..

On the other hand, I say YES. Soldiers are dying for nothing because life is paramount.

"What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty and democracy?"

There is no doubt if you are informed completely. If you are informed by the government controlled news on TV you would say of course they are not. That is the scary part many people still believe we had a right to declare war on Iraq.
We are in an orwellen state.

No, they are not dying in vain. I am sure the weapon industry and Bush'es frinds' oil companies are making a lot of money!

Oh no - not at all.

After all, they "welcomed us with flowers in the streets" as Cheney promised (roadside bombs), we got all the weapons of mass destruction (the SOLE purpose of the war), and we're "fighting the war on terrorism" (never mind that there were ZERO terrorists in Iraq prior to Bush's invasion.

Nah - it isn't in vain - besides, Halliburton and Lockheed are making BILLIONS off of it - so its worth it - right?

Oh and those billions - were BORROWED from foreign nations to fund the war.

Among them are China and Mexico. Yep - our idiot in chief is borrowing money from Mexico to pay for his private war.

No wonder he doesn't want to build that fence that the chickenhawk morons so badly want.

No, I think invading Iraq was a necessary move on the world chess board. But I wish they would be allowed to conduct themselves in a way that better ensures their safety even if that means we look worse to the world community.

poser marine is not a veteran. The closest he has come to being a veteran is when a veteran beat him up when he tried to peak into his urinal in the mens room.

No, unless the American people are learning nothing out of it. Otherwise, nothing will change, and your question would be subject to sarcasm and black humor.
