...tell us that even though we're Atheists, Agnostics, Buddists, etc. who truly don't believe in their God, that we do deep down? They say that though we deny belief, we're lying. I.E.--"You really believe in God, but you deny it because you're too prideful and afraid. But deep down you know he's real."
So, to all those claiming we believe in God, here's one for ya--"I believe in Scathach. I think that deep down you don't believe in God, but you know Scathach exists instead and you are just too prideful and vain to admit it. So you believe in her and just don't want to admit it."
Does that put it into perspective? So stop telling us that we believe in God, because we don't. It's that simple--we aren't too prideful, we aren't too vain, and we're sure that he doesn't exist. So try to stop saying that we do believe when we clearly don't.
I respect your beliefs and understand that you believe in God, but we simply don't. Please accept that.
Everyone get the point?

Jay--I'm here because I like to understand other religions. I just can't stand when people continually tell me what I do and do not believe. I know what I believe, I don't have to be told. And I am here to show that everyone can be a good person, regardless of religion or appearance. Why are you here?

Jaanto-- I wouldn't holler at anyone to save me. I'm a Agnostic, and that was an example--not my beliefs. If I die, then it's my time to go...why would I call out to anyone? I don't believe anything would stop a crashing plane no matter how loud I shouted.

No, I don't, but i'm sure deep down I really do.
Seriously though, those kind of people need more to do with their lives. They are just too used to their jobs at McDonald's or the BK Lounge to bossing people around.
Just smile, nod, and walk away. You're better than they are.

I can understand that you don't believe in God or that He even exists. I am a Christian and there are many verses in the Bible that talk about people who do not believe there is a God. Here are some of the references just in case you'd like to know what they are: Psalm 14:1, Psalm 53:1, Romans 1: 18-2:11, and Hebrews 11:1-6.
For those of us who do believe there is a God and have discovered that we can have a personal relationship with Him, find an unusually deep meaning in life and see God everywhere we go, so I can see how some people would misunderstand that you just don't believe.
I guess my question for you is, what if they are right???

I was raised a Christian, but found Wicca and Paganism to be my true path in life. I have even been told that I can not become a Non-Christian once I was one. Does that make any sense to you? Not that I would have really called myself at anytime a real Christian because I always felt that I was on the wrong path and never felt God or Jesus in my life.
I respect those that have remained faithful to their God. I ask the same from them. I may not believe the same as they do but I have a right(at least the last time I checked) to practice whatever religion I choose and that does not include God or Jesus no matter what anyone says.

Jaantoo1: "Hmmmm, I wonder IF: say ,, you are on an airplane that is crashing if you will be hollering the name of Scathach to save you?"
That's like saying, "There are no atheists in foxholes." As a matter of fact, there have been many atheists in foxholes. There are, in fact, atheists in all walks of life.
Atheism is not based on fear, nor is it effected by it.

Look I have been through many of thev belief systems that you mention. ( although I believe agnosticism to be more logical than atheism) and while I can respect uor belief and I apologize for what some fellow believers have said I would like to mention that some "non-believers" have given suggestions (although unwittingly) that they have some beliref in a higher power. If you read through some of their comments over time you will notice it in how they stste their disbelief. Also , while we are on the subject ..Thankk you for having the respect to accept an alternative belief. I would rather discuss theology with one person like you than a 1000 of some of these others.

I am a pagan Witch and boy do I get your point. Not only do I get it, I wrote a very similar question to this one. In my question, I said that I was a "Pagawitchian" (I thought this was pretty obvious) and I said that in my religion I was required to try to convert everyone else to believing in the Great Pagawitch, the great savior who came down to earth to save us all...
this went right over the Fundies little heads, for the most part. They are rather obtuse.
I like our question though. I wonder what the Fundies will say. No, I don't wonder, I already know. More double talk.

They say it because it is in the bible that all man kind has it written on their heart and the soul to re-connect with the creator, God.
That way no man is without excuse when the day comes for judgment.
I serve the Lord, and I have nothing but the best of wishes for you.

These people are too enclosed by their ignorant bubbles to understand that their beliefs are their beliefs, and not necessarily truths. They live in a fantasy world, and may or may not be purposefully inconsiderate. It's this kind of ignorance that leads them to downward social comparisons on others because they think others don't accept the truth (as they see it).
However, you gotta give them credit. Deep down sometimes we want to believe in things for mere convenience. Heck I'd love to live happily for eternity, and to think that my loved ones are watching me. However, it's hard for me to believe in irrational ideas.

Got it. But I got it a long time ago. I'm a Christian, but have a lot of atheist friends. As atheists, they don't believe in deities, period. That includes mine. That's their choice.
