The missionary who baptized me was moved to another area 1 month ago, he was here for 8 months and his b-day is next month, he always used to talk about it (he's very fun and nice) and my mom and I were thinking to make him a cake and a little celebration if he was still here. Are missionaries allowed to receive birthday cards/ letters?

Uh? when did I say about hugs? I've never hugged a missionary and had no plans to do so, I know they aren't allowed.

As much as I'd like to say, "GO FOR IT!!! He'll love it!!".....

In my mission, we were asked to discourage letters from people inside the mission while we were there. Once we were home, we could receive/write all the letters we wantetd. This is one of those things that is up to the mission president to decide. Ask the missionaries that are there in your area- they'll know the rules.

If they say it's ok, do it- he'll love getting a card from you, knowing you remember him!...

If it's not ok, don't. There's power in obedience, both yours and his. Allow him to keep the mission rules, and as soon as he's home, send him a belated birthday card, sign it, "We wanted you to be an obedient missionary, D&C 82:10"

I don't see why you couldn't write and send a Happy Birthday to him. The missionaries that I had when I got baptized gave me their addresses in their new area, including an email address. I was baptized and then our stake was reorganized and then were were put in a different mission area. I would think he would be very pleased to hear from you! And I don't get all the hug references either ; )

Yep, you can. I think an even better idea would to be to also include a letter to him. Tell him how you're doing, and what's going on in the area. I think about the only thing better for a missionary than getting news from home would be to get news from a previous area letting them know how their work has positively impacted the area and the members.

Of course!!! They would probably send you a letter back thanking you! Getting cards and letters are one of those things that missionaries love!!! Feel free to send him letters and the such just to let him know how you are doing too. Trust me, all missionaries love to hear from people they knew in all their areas. They miss you when they leave, and wonder what happens to you.

Technically you arn't suppose to send any mail or have contact with members inside your area like that. It would be lovely but its kinda inappropriate, unless of course the Mission Prez says its ok. My sis and I thru a B-Day party for a missionary that was in our branch once and it was way fun!!! To bad he got transfered. When he gets home write him alot so he knows how you are. My husband gets email all the time from members he baptised in MX. He loves to see how they are doing.

no, no contact allowed in the new area, and absolutely do not hug your missionary. Just think good thoughts, tell your current missionaries you wish the other missionary a happy birthday, they will tell him at the next zone meeting

I don't have my old missionary handbook with me. But I seem to remember it saying something about writing people inside the mission. My suggestion would be to ask your current missionaries about it.

Yeah I don't see why you can't. I think that is completely appropriate. He would probably be happy to hear how you are doing. Letters and cards are just fine. I know that you will keep it appropriate.

When in doubt, check with the Mission President.

Although you seem overly sweet and thoroughly innocent, do you need the encouragement from Yahoo to make even the simplest of decisions? You're asking if it's okay to give a missionary food and cards? While mormonism discourages initiative and original thinking, this is a little 'underboard'.

You have our collective permission.
