RICE

R-rest
I-ice
C-Compression
E-Elevation

No major exercise, ice it 20 on 20 off, if you want to put heat on, ice it 20, heat it 20, etc. Wrap an ace bandage around it--not too tightly, sleep with it on. Elevate your thigh above your hips.

If it's not better in a few days, call the dr.

P.S. Ibuprofen 400mg/6hrs, unless the pain is severe, then 800mg/6hrs.

Ice and Motrin will help swelling if you injured it. If not you need to look for discoloration - could indicate blood clot, or warm to the touch - could indicate infection.

if it's an injury that's happened in the last 24 hrs, ice will help a little along with ibuprofin.

honestly my best advice would be to put ice on it and take some type of anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen or Motrin
