Hey there - I am trying to write a list of the things that I accomplished at my current job - and the fact is, it hasn't been much. Not due to laziness, but lack of support (from the non-involved owner).
The "accomplishments" I feel would be strectching the truth. For example, I reduced staffing costs by 50% - however, this was not due to financial talent, but having to fire half my staff on a whim of the boss.....(I had to fire the ugly people basically)
Is that kind of truth strecthing considered unethical?
Is it likely to come back and bite me in the butt?

Let me know what you think
Thanks a bunch

Say something about not being challenged enough to your potential, hence why you're looking for another job.

How about saying something about "Performed Several HR related tasks pertaining to goal setting, hiring, termination"... Etc. I am sure you have done a lot of things there, but are letting this negative experience overshadow that. It is never good to talk bad about the old company, or the management to future employers. I am sure if you write a list of your actual job duties you will be able to come up with several honest answers. The only way it will bite you in the butt is if you lie. Either you terminated people, or you didn't. In yours, you did, so you would be OK. Best of luck and congrats on finding a place that will appreciate you!

Theres nothing wrong with polishing up the truth, but beware of polishing it up too much. Everything you say is at some risk of being asked about. Reducing staffing costs by 50% is one I'd definitly question if I were interviewing you. I dont think you want to say my boss made me do it then.

make sure you include the differences in ethical approaches in management style. As far as your accomplishments - state that truthfully to - " I was not able to utilize my knowledge and skills to contribute to the growth of the company"...the explain what your skills and understanding are in a way that you want to contribute to a company.
