I think deep inside it's because they really do want something to believe in and they just aren't sure what it is they should believe in.

Well I think you mean "interested". You can be addicted to a physically addictive substance, like an opiate drug, or alcohol. Otherwise, you can say "obsessed with" or "interested in", OK?

And, not all atheists are at all interested in religion. But, for the ones that are, there are a few good reasons.

A lot of intelligent, educated people like to know what they are talking about before they actually talk about something. It is pretty silly to criticize something that you don't understand, don't you think?

Some atheists come from a religious background. They find it difficult to reconcile all the time they wasted on something so irrelevant to their lives.

Some people find it difficult to get around the fact that so many other people believe something so patently mythological, and let it control their lives, that they feel a sort of need to refute such a belief. I guess they want to save people - kind of like missionaries, I guess.

Does any of this clear it up for you?

Well in the last few days I have found out that as an atheist I:

1. Hate god
2. Actually believe in god
3. Am suppressing the Christian religion by not allowing them to legislate gay marriages.
4. Live an immoral life.
5. Am unintelligent.
6. Beligerent towards everyone.
7. Addicted to religion.

I am glad you cleared that up for me. I was thinking otherwise.

Atheists are addicted criticising religious beliefs, as if they hold the answer to the religious enigma and the like. When they are doing so, they act like preachers, sometimes they sound much better than priests, too.

addicted? hardly.

don't be sad just because many of us know more about your religion than you do.

we aren't all the "religion-ignorant" people you would make us out to be. we know very much what we are against.
