The quality of corn depends in the handling. The moment it is cut from the plant, the sugar will turn into starch. making the corn not sweet. That is why it should be kept chilled at around 5 degrees celsius to 8 degrees. A fresh corn should only be steamed in only 10 min. Make sure your steamer is really hot before you add your corn. boiling it, will dissolve the sweetness into the water. It is the same as when you grill it over hot charcoal, /the grill should be very hot and it will only take 10 min to cook the corn.

You are right! Boiling corn on the cob shouldn't take more than just a couple of minutes. You should have a big pot of salted water and when it boils put in the corn. Once the corn comes back to a boil, only leave the corn in for a couple of minutes. The corn should come out nice and sweet and tender.

I like my corn crunchy so I don't boil it. I put the corn in cold water and bring to a boil. Then I cover it and remove from the heat and let stand for 10 minutes.

About 12 to 15 minutes add a little sugar. But if you really like corn on the cob, grill it husk and all for about 30-35 minutes until you can feel it give a little. Take off husk and silk. Butter it up and enjoy.

actually, this way is easier and tastes better.

1. leave the husk on the corn and pull off or cut off the silk. that's the hairy stuff on the end of the corn.

2. bake in a 350 degree oven for around 30 minutes.

3. peel and eat.

the husk gives the corn extra flavor and you can substitute putting the corn on the grill for step #2.

I'm with historyman on this one.
I bring the water to a boil
add salt and sugar
add the corn
cover and cook 5 minutes
drain the water
add butter and season

It's perfect every time!

I place it in a pot of boiling water and only when the pot is boiling again do I set the timer for 5 minutes, and simmer with the lid on.
Drain and rest for a few minutes and pour over melted butter.
