Okay, the doctor put me on Cymbalta for pain and to help with some of my slight depression. I have Sjorgren's and Rhemitoid arthritis. Some days I hurt really bad and it is hard to be in a good mood when you hurt. Any way, he wants me also to go to pain management but my mom says insurance won't cover that. Why wouldn't they and is she correct? Also, has your doctor ever put you on that for pain? Thanks!

It really helped my pain but it made me agitated - I was taking 60 twice a day.

I was put on it strictly for pain mgmt....some auto immune thing and peripheral neuropathy....

Call the insurance company and ask them directly. If they really don't - hopefully your doc will take care of you.

Good luck honey - I feel ya pain!

Cymbalta was a pretty good anti-dep for me, but if it touched my pain, I didn't recognize it.

I suggest you ask your dr. about Neurontin. It's a pain-blocker, not allowing the pain signals to reach the brain. Very effective, it's also an anti-anxiety drug.

I don't know why your insurance won't cover pain management.

My doctor put me on that med because I have chronic major depression and anxiety disorder.

It is hard to be Mary Sunshine when you're in pain. That's why depression is linked very closely to chronic pain. So sometimes helping the one symptom helps the other. The best medicine I have pain-wise is an old anti-depressant. It's a great migraine preventative.

I make it a practice to not allow pain to go untreated. If I feel a migraine coming on, I treat it within 2 mins. Pain, in my case, doesn't get better when it's ignored, it gets worse, and worse pain is harder to treat. So I treat pain agressively.

BTW just ideas: I don't know anything about your case, and I'm just a TX mom depressed/lady with migraines, but do you have physical therapy available? Is it helpful?

BTW: The dr. who prescribed the Cymbalta, if he's not a psychiatrist, chances are that's why he's trying to get you into pain management--he's not comfortable prescribing psychiatric meds. Psychiatric meds are very complicated these days and most regular doctors don't know how to handle them appropriately. A psychiatrist is the guy that could help you with pain/depression.

BTW: Do you have a rheumatologist?

I'm sorry you're suffering so much, honey. After my dr. told me something, I would do just what you're doing and getting some research on the product and if it's going to help.

If I could reach out and cure your pain, I would. But I'm just a mom. Take care, hot baths, good food

I know that Cymbalta is for depression, anxiety and nerves. I was on it before and it made me have weird side effects. I haven't heard of it for pain. That is why they make Oxycontin. For pain management it depends on what type of insurance you have. If anything call your insurance company and see what they have to say.

Sorry, I dont know about the insurance, but my doctor did put me on Cymbalta for pain and depression. It helps with the depression but not the pain.
I would call your insurance company and ask about the pain specialist.
Good luck!
