great abs are made in the kitchen not in the gym.

getting ripped , increasing definition and toning are all the same thing and are nothing more than semantics for reducing the current level of body fat. exercise provides the necessary stimulus to the muscles and to the CNS but the diet provides (or doesn't) the nutrients that the body needs to function at optimal levels of efficiency. you are what you eat, so the more healthy your diet the greater the visual results you will see from exercise.

Steroids give you results quick and heartache longterm. Diet plays a huge part in the 'ripped' look and it cannot be considered a regular look but rather something achieved after a fast. You would be better off doing light weights with lots of reps because you don't have a lot of mass to play with.

Eat healthily with lots of veggies, lean meat and complex carbs and be active , you will not have problem losing some weight.

I am on low carb, low fat, high fibre, high protein and a hour brisk walk 5 times a week, and I have lost 31lbs and gain better health. I am now maintaining my 108lbs for more than a year.

You've got a LOT of resources out there & I've listed below some of my favorite sites. You're going to need a plan and stick to it but it's not impossible, particularly if you're young. You'll want a good exercise plan that is a blend of cardio, weights and stretching - with a major emphasis on weights. You'll want a diet rich in protein - LOADED with protein - and fresh vegetables and fruits.

5 months? It CAN be done - good luck to you!
