. . .may I suggest a more appropriate metaphor?

We--all of us--are on a sinking ship with no lifeboats. Jesus says to each person, "Come with Me; I have a unsinkable lifeboat and there's room in it for you." Now, if we choose to stay on board the ship as it sinks, how can we complain that we're being punished at all, let alone *unfairly* punished?

Utuk, say no to drugs.

I'm not trying to convert anyone; I just wanted to illustrate how utterly silly it is to describe Hell as "unfair," or as "punishment." It is neither.

Hello, God Knows:

By the way, there was a placard with your name on it outside the courthouse when they acquitted OJ of murder.

Yes, O.J. will have to answer to the One who can never be bribed or intimidated. Judgments are coming and "He will not acquit the guilty." But you are right, eternal torment is unfair; it does not rationalize with thinking people, and is Satan's counterfeit of God's elimination of the sin problem.

You see, Hell is Sheol in Hebrew, and merely means the grave. It is Hades in Greek and came from Greek Mythology, a place separated from the earth by the River Styx.

Hell is much hotter and burns the wicked for eternity--yes, hell-fire is an eternal punishment, not an eternal punishing--there is a difference, you know.

The problem is that Jesus, in this scenario, has the power to stop the ship from sinking. Not only that, he claimed to have already stopped the ship from sinking, and sent forth his messengers to proclaim the good news that the ship was safely back on course.

I think Karma or the ancient Greek Underworld was more just. If you drank from the river of forgetfulness, you could go back on earth and try again. There's no learning curve with Hell.

"The problem is that Jesus, in this scenario, has the power to stop the ship from sinking."
On the contrary, if we keep sabotaging the ship so that it sinks, he'll let us sink. Free will and all that.

Maybe it's just me, but I seem to sense a lot of personal attacks and other attempts to avoid the issue here. Maybe some people are bitter that you've deflated one of their favorite arguments?

This is what I believe regarding hell. When we cross over, we watch and feel our past life here. We feel the pain which we have caused, and the pain this has caused others, and so on, like ripples in water. Now, think of Hitler, of mass murderers, of mass rapists...etc. Now, there's some incredible, unspeakable pain. Which was completely avoidable. Can you really think of a worse hell? Also, it’s from God, so it has purpose. Not only does it teach, but it is custom made for each of us. It’s not just some mindless thrust of some sinner into the same hell over and over. If you believe in God, He has given us a simple rule to escape hell. Unconditional love for Our Creator, and for all others, including ourselves . If you don’t believe in God, then follow the rest. It’s that simple, and that hard. Give God His props. We need to stop listening to a flawed Bible, sucking it all down without discretion. Anyone who knows the Bible’s history should be aware that it’s been messed with over and over. Stop giving God human limitations!
Blessed Be

Don't always listen to what every pastor has to say and agree with it. You make your own conclusions. Yes there should be a Hell. Where would we put those bosses that treated their workers like dirt? Or the parents that like to do harm to their children? Or the people that like to do ethnic cleansing? Were should they go.... Think about it. As for Jesus he was sent to the world by God and as a part of God being his son to share a more peaceful view on life so people can be with him not suffering.

What is really unfair is the part how Jesus died a horrible death even though he was completely without fault and all this for sinners like us who did nothing to deserve it and he still makes the way for us and some still reject and dont want it.

Very good, I like it, just keep in mind they want to believe that God is unjust, the truth does not matter.
