I created a baby registry mostly so my mom would know what to get, since we don't live in the same state. A few friends have asked if I'm having a shower & I've told them I'm not. I feel awkward mentioning that I have a registry because I don't want to come across as rude or presumptious, like i'm expecting a gift. Should I mention it, maybe in an email, or send them the link to it?

Yes, I ge the fact that I don' t get a shower because it's not my first baby etc. The reason I was asking the question is because people have been asking me what I need. If they didn't intend to be told what I need then why ask? I just thought it would be easier rather than me saying specifically "I would like such and such an item, and who it's made by, and what color" etc I have bought most of what I need already & I don't "need" anybody to buy me anything. I'm just wondering why everybody thinks it's rude for me to mention it when I have been asked specifically what I need? It has not been 10 years since I have had a baby but I have moved twice since he was born and had to get rid of a lot of things.

It's fully acceptable if you tell them "no, I'm not having a shower, but I am registered at ________.", especially if they have asked about a shower.

Do not mention it unless you are asked specifically "Is there something you need for the baby?" Typically, showers are thrown for the first child since most things can be used for the second or third child, with the exception of different clothes for different sexes. Just sending a link would be presumptuous and rude, that's where the feeling of "awkward" stems from.

No. Unless more than 10 years has passed since your first child, you don't get a shower and so you don't get to publically announce you have a registry.

But, Shame on your friends! Why on earth would they ask YOU if you are having a baby shower??? It's THEIR job to throw you one if they want to! It's supposed to be a surprise FOR you . Not an event hosted BY you! They should be slapped!

If someone asks you if you need anything for the new baby, In the course of THAT conversation, you could mention that you made a regsitry list for your mom and you're not sure what she's bought already. You could then mentiona few items on the list. If they ASK for the link, then you could give it to them. But I would not offer it up unless they ask.

Perhaps you should think about why you feel awkward about the whole thing.....maybe because it sounds like a present grabbing exercise: rude & presumptious.. Do you really need a register? If your mum didn't know what to get you, why didn't you just tell her a few things you would like. Surely having a child is all about the parents saving up and buying things for their new baby....it's all part of the intimacy of being married and sharing....

Just casually mention it to one of your friends who loves to gossip. S/he'll get the word out for ya :)

If someone asks what you need tell them that you have registered so they can get something from your list.

No, but if they ask what they can get you or what you need, then you can tell them. Your mom should also tell them only if she is asked what you need.
