Today at the movie theaters my neck started itching. I thought it was nothing but throughout the movie my whole body was itching. Then outside I saw my arms had big red bumps on them. My friend said maybe its somethin' I ate. But I only ate McDonalds and popcorn. And I always eat that so it doesnt make sense I would have hives now. Could it be the chairs? I read online that widespread hives could be a sign of a viral infection? Should I go to the doctor?

When I was a senior in highschool I started getting really bad hives for no apparent reason. The doctor told me that stress or even sun exposure can cause them. I didn't realize I was under stress, but now that I look back on it I was probably pretty stressed. I had to take zyrtec for the hives and I haven't had any in 10 years. Go to your doctor. They can tell you more and even give you an allergy test to tell you what caused them. Benadryl cream always worked for me if I couldn't get to the doctor.

Hives are such a nuissance!! I got them out of the blue one day, real bad all over. I have gotten them on a daily basis for about 3 yrs now, tried changing everything. I cant figure it out neither the doc. I find that cold weather, pressure to the skin, tylenol, drinking alcohol, and stress increases the severity but no real explination. Its very agravating I sure hope that this is not your case. But if it is, always carry benedryl or a epi pen with you because if you get them in your throat you could go into anaphlactic shock and die.

In chinese cooking at restaurants, the cook often uses an ingredient known as MSG. This ingredient helps to make the food more delicious but it can also cause allergy or sensitivity problems in many people. You may be allergic to crab or shrimp already and do not realise it. Over a certain amount, your body is not able to take it any longer and you get to experience hives. The best is to check with your doctor exactly what you are allergic to.

Yes you could have had a topical skin reaction to something on the movie theatre seat.

When I was in my teens my friend's brother and his friends thought it was funny to put itching powder on theatre seats. I have since learned from my kids that this "age old tradition" is still going strong.

You can also develop allergies at any time in life to things that never bothered you before...shampoo, perfume, laundry soap. Did you buy a new shirt. Did you wash it before you wore it? Did someone near you have on a certain aftershave and touch your neck?

Don't panic just be observant and see what the common denominator(s) is/are if this ever happens again.
