I'm hosting a backyard BBQ and I will have a volleyball net up in my backyard for the occasion. Besides providing plenty of food, booze, and the volleyball game, are there any other good ways I can make sure my guests will be entertained? Or do you think the volleyball net is enough of a diversion?

I'm sure that good conversation with ensue so you will be fine. Alot of people mill around food, so i would disperse the food, so people are forced to get up and mingle with different groups. Maybe even get like a slip in slide for the children, they are cheap and will keep entertained for HOURS!!! and the adults can get a kick out of watching the children play!

Depending on the age, make it a theme party. It sounds like this is a party for young adults. Try making it a Hawaiian theme with leis, music, and themed games. Themes make it interesting and leave a memory of the party. If you have a pool there have a "Big Kahuna Splash Contest" where people can bet on who will win. Also do simple games like poker and poison chair.

Hope It Helps!

Music is always good as long as it is not too loud to talk without shouting. A BBQ is not formal so you do not need to have everything planned out. Most people like to come just to see everyone else and have a chance to catch up.
