I want to know if it will look right to get a color tattoo or a regular tattoo. I'm a medium skinned black guy. Does anyone have any links of where I could take a look at color tattoos on black people. Could you recommend some people in the LA area (the Valley).

I work at a tattoo shop so listen to me on this. If you're light skinned you can get away with some colors. Reds and greens are strong colors that show up on most skin tones. If you are dark complected, go for black and grey...SERIOUSLY. Do not waste you money on a color tattoo if you are dark.

I am an avid watcher of the TV show "Miami Ink", and I know that the guys on that show recommend for African Americans to get black/gray toned tattoos. They say that that the color does not look good because of the dark palette (skin). They also say the colors will not be vivid, and may fade faster than a colored tattoo on a caucasian. I just wouldn't want you to be disappointed if you went through the time and money to get a colored tattoo, and then not be happy with the outcome. Good luck!

Worked in a tattoo shop, and what we say is....take a sheet of colored paper. Brownish. Now write on it with a crayon. What shows up? Colors are going to look duller and not as vibrant on dark skin as they would on a pasty red head. Reds and greens generally take well; Yellows and pale oranges not so much. So it's really up to you. I've seen both color and black and shade, but generally, the black jumps out more.

i would recommend getting a regular tattoo cuz overall color tattoo is always ugly. And plus i dont wanna be racist but regular tattoo just fits black people ( black singers, atheletes, and entertainers dont have color tattoo so dont get it)

dont go for color. Colors dont stand out in dark color background. just use a piece of paper for testing, a brown paper and a white paper, put some color on each paper with color pencil/markers. see which paper shows more color. the white paper shows brighter color.
so just go for black/grey. dont waste money on color. from far away, its hard to tell its color or not.
