so, I just found out my sister-in-law is pregnant. Their first kid, my first nephew/neice. So, what are the rules and regulations of unclehood? I figure it's my job to spoil the kid rotten, right?

How sweet! Congrads.

I'm an aunt to 4 kids but I only get to see them once a month or so. Not enough for me.

I try to treat the kids like my own. As they get older though I feel weird about correcting them when they misbehave though. I want them to like me not hate me. lol

I think the key is think about your own uncles. What do you like or dislike about them? This is how I thought of myself. I had an aunt who I always saw as pretty bossy and I never felt comfortable around her. Yet I had another aunt who at 50 something is still like a large wild kid and she annoys me to death!

Think about the kind of uncle you wanted as a child and try to be like that. But fun and loving. Spoil the child.

But, you also want to talk to your brother and sister in law about it. With a first child parents can be kind of clingy about the baby. So they may not want you hogging him or her. lol

Always ask before you buy something like a toy. I HATE it when people give my kids loud annoying toys. Also the cheap kind that I know will great broken.

Congrads. My sister is getting married this week and I can't wait to hear the news some day when I'll be aunt again.

Good for you! However, it depends on whether it's a girl or a boy, to see if you are an aunt or an uncle! (just kiddin').
Yeah, pretty much your job is spoiling - and it's a great chance for you to see how things work with a marriage and a baby. Young mature guys can just be SO great with babies - you'll have a great time!

No rules, no punishment (unless it's like uncontrolable), no vegies, nothing that thier parents would want them to do. Just have nothing but fun when he comes over and make him feel like he's the center of your universe when your with him. And remember the five basic food groups: chocolate, candy, sugar, anything that doesn't contain fruits and or veggies lol! just ignore that last part, just have more fun that you did when you where a kid!
