Are you comfortable shopping online at all?

First I would go to a regular bridal shop and try on all sorts of dresses to find out what style suits you best (for insance you need a halter top A-line dress) and use that as a guide. You should also have someone professionaly measure you since getting accurate measurements without the help of someone else is nearly impossible.

There are several really wonderful vendors on Ebay who make designer knock-offs for very cheap. As long as you check and make sure they have plenty of positive feedback (at least 100 with a rating of 99%) I've heard many brides who have done this and are very happy with the results.

My college as a fashion design department and my dress is being custom made by one of the students. I'm buying the material ($1 a yard with bi-weekly Joann's coupon) and paying her like a hundred dollars...I had her do my rehersal dinner dress as a test and its coming along wonderfully and I get the dress I dreamed of down to the last detail.

I agree definitely find the style and size that best fits you. When buying online you will save money but also keep in mind that you may need alterations so buy the dress a size larger just in case.

I found a few sites for you to check out, you also may want to look at vintage dresses or consginment dresses they will also save you money.

Good luck!
