My family is going on a trip abroad relatively soon. It's going to be 18 hours (We're going to Europe.)

The longest flight I've been on is 6 hours, nonstop. There will be no stops on this flight either. We'll be flying out in the late afternoon and arrive the next morning. I intend to read a long book, but I don't know about sleeping/non reading time. What do you do to keep yourself occupied on long flights?

I have been on those SUPER long nonstop flights to europe. Actually i just got back from one, and i was able to find great ways to occupy my self.

Bring as many things as u can think of. Mp3 player fully charged, which should last most of the flight, if you have any portable game consuls can really help and as you said a great book. But i would say bring two just in case. I have learned from experiance.
It is a good idea to bring a lap top as well, with movies and different shows if you have any. It can really pass the time. You will probuely be going on a 747. That is the biggest plane runnning. It is HEUGE. So, if you get a bit tierd, get up and walk around. It really helps. And on some of the planes they even have your own personal TV screen, where you can chose your movies. Now, your plane might not have this, but if it does, it is a great time passer.

it is super hard to fall asleep on a airplane, especially when it is over night. But try different sleeping postitions, and try dreaming bout stuff you enjoy. OR, try closing your eyes while listening to music, which has helped me fall asleep on my past flights. And try striking up converstations whith the people next to u, even if they are your family, the slightest thing can help past the flight

trust me, i go on A LOT of airplanes every year and i hope these ways help you stay occupied. Hope i helped and have a nice flight.

You should drink a lot of water. You can get really dehydrated on long flights. Also, there are one of two things you could do with the jet-lag. Stay up the entire flight(s) until you get home and crash, or sleep though the entire flight(s) and stay up until you would normally go to bed. You should also try to avoid drink a lot of caffeine or alcohol because they could dehydrate you, making your flight really uncomfortable. Biggest thing, is to just try and relax, and have a good time. If there is a movie, then watch it, or read you favorite book or something like that.

Watching the movie is ok if it's a good one. Try an over the counter sleep medicine such as tylenol pm.Once the plane takes off I take it and then after dinner I can usually sleep thru the flight. I also bring a travel scrabble with me. Acheap computer games is a good way to pass the time too.

I love reading so I usually carry some interesting books with me, if you don’t like reading you can listen to music, it helps you catching a good sleep during the flight or you can carry some snacks and can enjoy the view outside the window. Video Games can also be a good alternative for pass time.

My longest flight was 9 hours, to London.
Try sleeping is the best cure if you are flying to the east at night. Reading and electronic games (if permitted) are also important for me and my family. Don't forget to walk from time to time is important for the circulation of the body.

Buen viaje !

I like to put my feet up, cover up the cockpit windscreen (it just gets too bright) and pop in a DVD. Afterwards, I put on my sleep shades and grab a few hours of sleep.

Just kidding...

Most long-haul flights offer a wide variety of in-flight entertainment including multiple feature films and televised programming. There's also multiple meal services (if you can call it a meal). Books, magazines, sudoku puzzles can help to keep you busy too as well as the ever popular window. Always take care to stretch your legs from time to time.

Enjoy
