I live in the Bible belt. Everyone thinks THEY know everything there is to know about the word of Jesus. I believe Jesus himself could come down to earth and speak, and some of these people would be like, " No Jesus, you ment this in this vurse."

Hah. I have no questions. But, I do not say I know everything. I cannot know, nor understand every word. I can only take it in the best way I can and live a good life and do good things.

Each person interprets the scriptures in their own way. Not intentionally, but based on their own past experiences and who they are. Some take the word literally...others use it as a guideline for living...still others assume that it is conceptural in nature. I am of the latter opinion. The problem of course is the fact that everyone thinks their version is the right one...that is only human nature i.e. If you are a believer...what makes you think your interpretation is better than someone else's? Like I said...human nature.

Interesting question. You are probably right, many of those who claim to know Him would contradict Him if came back to Earth and re-phrased His words in modern (you pick the modern language and dialect).
On the other hand, the Word of God was given to humans so that they could understand who the Triune God of the Bible is, who they are, and what God expects of them. God revealed Himself in the Bible so as to be understood, so its not that far fetched an idea that we might have a thorough understanding of it. The Bible is literature. Like all other works of literature it must be understand in terms of genre, literary ques, particular authors' styles and so on. The problem is, most moderns don't understand their own mother tongue, how can they ever hope to understand the translation of two languages that have been dead for two thousand years or more?

Many people just know the basics, from which they imply further knowledge. I do not claim to know all of The Word, but I try to study it often and understand more as time progresses.

If somebody used scripture against you or against an action you made, I hope they truly knew what they were talking about, but oftentimes people take single verses out of context, which may have been the case.

Not everything that Jesus spoke and taught were written down. That is why we have what is called Sacred Tradition. Which are the oral teachings and traditions that Jesus taught to the Apostles and that they also taught to the Jewish and the Gentile

John 20:30Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31But these are written that you may[ believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

well, there are certain customs which they look for justification from the bible for. just the way society works. we've gotta have evils or there can't be any good.

I know very little in retrospect about the Word of God, but everyday I try to edify myself a little more.

If this was true then why do believers spend a lifetime studying the word and agree that no one except God Himself knows it all.
