There was a Buddhist story about enlightenment that had the main character see through the clouds to the blue sky above. Seeing the sky was the equivalent to enlightenment and he tried to explain what the color blue was like to those who were not enlightened/had their heads under the clouds.

Does this ring a bell to anyone?

I am sorry, I do not know. But please, when you find out email me and tell me the name, this story sounds quite interesting.

No, I don't know an actual enlightenment story. Roshi Jiyu Kennet used to use that image as a teaching aid - the dark clouds obscuring the bright sun which is, nevertheless, always shining.
Best I can do, sorry.

Enlightenment is not something new it always is and has been, once the clouds of ignorance have disappeared there the sun is, not something new just known now. Sorry this is as close as I could come to what you were looking for.
