I don't think it's child abuse. They are just irresponsible. A lot of people don't seem to make the connection between a bad diet and obesity. And a lot of people don't realize what a good diet is (which doesn't mean that you can't eat good food in rather large quantities - I know, that's what I do!). They are just used to this diet. Or they prefer to let their kids eat whatever he/she wants instead of saying NO.
And I'm sick of people saying that it's a disease. Just eat less. Some people might have a disease, but I'm pretty sure that the vast majority just overeat/doesn't eat helathy.
Edit: I forgot to talk about exercise!

There are some cases where because of a medicial condition a child will be obese, in that case it can't be helped and no one is to blame. BUT, when I see a child at Mcdonald's eating more food than an adult, yes it is abuse. I feed my kids 3 meals and 2 snacks a day and that is more than enough for a child. There is no reason why a child should eat anymore than that. I had a neighbor once who had a very fat 11 year old, the girl could eat a medium pizza by herself in one sitting, to make a long story short, the mother turned custody over to the father and when I saw the daughter a couple of weeks ago (after not seeing her for over a year and a half) I couldn't believe the difference. She was thin and able to run around without having to stop from being out of breathe. Parents should be held accountable in making sure that their children are not overeating and more importantly getting healthy food and not junk.

Sometimes obesity is considered a "disease" and I can agree with that. However, in many of the cases that I have seen with children who are, oh, about 150lbs at age 2, well, that's not a disease in all cases. The talk shows you see about these cases make you want to scream at the parents. I have heard parents say that they don't want to deny their children anything, and they will give them whatever they want to eat. Um, that's totally unhealthy, and yes, it's some sort of abuse. Parents aren't supposed to be feeding their kids cookies, candies, cakes, chocolate milk, constantly. That's not parenting. They are enabling their children and pretty much shortening their life span by letting them gain that much weight.

Wrong, yes. But the words child abuse are WAY over used. To say child abuse, that means the government should step in and pull the children. I am against that for obesity issues.

I have always been heavy.I ate the same things as my siblings and less amounts sometimes. My younger brother cannot gain weight ( another form of diabtetes) but I have to be careful about what I eat.It is just 2 different body types in our family.
Teaching kids to hate fat people and put them down is another form of child abuse.Had I weighed 200 lbs at the age of 5 and my parents just didn't do anything then that would be abuse.
I do not know any parents who exercise with their kids.Fat,skinny, or otherwise.A study was done and super fit people only live like 7 months longer than unfit people.Go figure.

There are alot of obese children in the world and alot of these children suffer from diseases and medical conditions that make them obese. Some have poor eating habita and it is a parents job to teach a child who is obese about eating right and exercise, but under no circumstance is this child abuse. Like I said some children and even adults can't help it that they are obese. So don't be so judgemental on the people as you have no idea what they are going through alot of these people are wonderful people if you get to know them and have a heart of gold. And incase you are wondering...no I am not obese I'm 5'8 and 125 lbs.

First of all no one said you had to look at anyone if kills you and who are you to judge the way they look. Many times people are over weight because of genetics. It is easy for some people to be thin but don't think it is that way with everyone. Another factor that can play into this is income and if someone is from a low income background they eat what they can afford and if you think about it the healthier the food the more costly it is. Therefore breads and pasta become their source of nutrition.

It feel either one of them want extra concentration, animal abuse, and little one abuse. In my opinion they're each as dangerous a every different. No dwelling creature must cross by way of the abuse a few cross by way of.

It kills me when random people open their big mouths when they don't know the whole story of someone's life.
Yes, there are some overweight people who sit on their butts eating chips and candy all day, but there are some people with medical problems that causes them to be overweight. Until you know the details, you and other people should keep your mouths shut. No, it isn't child abuse. If you're force feeding your kids, you need help. But I wouldn't go as far as "child abuse". I see "child abuse" as punching a kid and throwing them down the stairs. Molestating your kids, and raping them. THAT'S abuse.

I agree. Kids need to have the best shot at a good life and healthy eating and excercise gives them a leg up on good health.
I was a victim of family stuffing me full of junk food when I was a kid, and I have struggled with weight ever since.
I love it that my daughter will choose a sandwich over a chocolate bar. Makes me feel like I've been a decent mom.

i think it should be considered a mild form of abuse or neglect. Or maybe there should be nutrition classes given to new moms or something along with the birthing classes. It may be a medical condition to some......but only some....not over 1/3 of the population or whatever the statistic is now.
