And no, I do not practice it. I know the bible flat out forbids it and I know its stated reasons. However, I have noticed two things when people forbid others to do certain things. Either the person who outlaws the action or practice does it so they can go on doing that particular practice themselves in order to maintain power and eliminating competition (this is assuming magic works, and if I was a savvy politician who used religion to get my way, this is how I'd secure my power base. Forbid others to use it while I continued to do so in private.) or because it has been known to become a gate way to insane behavior (any been or read about cultures with strong superstitious views knows what social and political horrors a strong cultural belief in irrational mysticism can cause.)
What is your opinion?

I guess many do not understand my question. I will put it simply. Do you think there was an ulterior motive for the person or religious leaders for forbidding the practice of magic other then what is stated in the bible? See examples in question above to see what I mean.

Seems like no one is understanding the question, considering their replies.
Once again I feel misunderstood and wonder if it is my fault for being unable to explain my idea with clarity or is the fault the those responded for they failed to read my details along with the question. I have no idea. So far there is no best answer.

My opinion is magic doesn't exist.
So someone can practice their imaginary art all they want.

Found two cents, thought I'd spend it.
A good question to ask, so may I try and convey it from a Christian's perspective? As a Christian, I need to be very conscious that my actions don't create a divide in my relationship with God. The critical element of a Christian's belief is that Jesus, God's Son, died on the cross for our sin and came back three days as the resurrected messiah. We exist now because the Holy Spirit, whom God promised, walked beside us.
The opposition towards magic craft is because I believe I would be getting myself involved into something that has nothing to do with God. It also has nothing to do with what Jesus did on the cross, therefore nullifying why I choose to believe in God and His son. It's potentially a diversion that seperates truly what God wants for you, and what Jesus died for, which is life in all it's fullness.
I believe people can conduct magic craft - but I'm not 100 percent convinced that it's God's perfect will for your life... not when He can provide so much more than any magic craft could ever. So as a Christian you need to make that choice to not sit on any fence... you either seek His will and follow His ways, or you don't. With what I read, and what I believe, I just don't know convincingly that magic craft is what God wants for us.
This may sound narrow minded, I realise, but it's what I believe and I got the impression you were specifically asking people who felt it was a sin as opposed to others who might want to be a little more bilateral.

I think people consider it a sin because they know nothing about it and are scared of it. From my own experience l have found that Christians preach it as a sin because they like the power trip. I come from a Christian background. When l was a teenager l would ask my Youth Leaders many questions in regards to Witchcraft and all they could tell me was that it was a sin and that it was of the Devil. In my early adult years l decided to read up on the history of witchcraft and found it was not as they claimed it to be. I dont think l am a sinner.
I think people should be accepted for what they are and what they believe.

I opine that the 'sin' of magic (or, more accurately learning from or using the knowledge of the fallen ones) is anathema to God because: it is doing self will !! That is, 'here, moloch, see what a good worshipper I am; I threw my infant onto a large fire - now you'll grant me good rains, so my harvest will be plentiful AND more children (they were called fertility cults for a reason). Or, the wicked young girl who pays for a 'black mass' (and magic, including sacrificing a baby she bought from a local peasant) in order to get the king to marry her: and HE DID !! Later,he dumped her; but, that's another story.
Today, magic and pagan rituals are mostly for generating peaceful and calm feelings; as well as lots of guiltless sex.
But, the bottom line is: is it going to be 'my will be done' or 'Thy will be done' This is the crucial difference between a believer and an unbeliever.

Magic is simply knowing more about how the universal laws work. 99.99% of folks are way to brainwashed and ignorant to comprehend anything. They believe in miracles. There is no magic and there are no miracles as talked about in any religion. It is simply knowing how to apply certain universal laws. That is knowledge and power.
That knowledge is/was jealously guarded by the institutions like the church. It would have eroded their power.... and therefore the horrible inquisition, the lies and deceptions, fear mongering, excommunications, the suppression of the progressive sciences etc.
"Magik" is not a sin - it is a sin only for the dumb and ignorant who believe all without questioning what their preachers tell them.

Religion is about Power and Money.
If you give ANY OTHER 'ism' or belief system credence you are NOT giving your religion your whole attention.
Religions are secure places for small insecure people to hide themselves within.
They become fearful when confronted with knowledge which in any way could disturb their security.
If you give any attention or money to something outside religion the parasites know they're not getting all of you and become resentful and make up reasons why OTHER occult beliefs are BAD, never realising religion is as much part of The Occult and more Superstitious and Baseless than Magic.
To become enthralled with Invisible Sky Critters is about the silliest thing one could do.

First by what rule do you measure "sin". Sin scripturally is "missing the mark". If miracles are "magic" performed by God, and other forms of "magic" are from Satan; then they can both be believed. Sin is then giving glory to any one besides our Creator, who said "you shall have no God before Me". Belief; in anything isn't a sin.

This is where magic comes and why it is evil.
This book tells you how people perform magic. It also has the cures and remedies.

Surah 2 Ayat 102
And [this also happened now; so] when a Prophet came to them from God in confirmation of the predictions which were with them, some of those to whom the Book was given cast off the Book of God over their backs [in such a manner] as if they did not even know about it and [in order to harm the Prophet] went after what the devils would recite and chant in the age of Solomon's kingdom. [They attribute such chants and recitals to Solomon] whereas Solomon never was guilty of disbelief; it is the devils who were guilty of disbelief they would teach people witchcraft. And [they went after] that which was revealed to the angels Harut and Marut in Babylon. Yet they would never instruct anyone without saying to him beforehand? We are a test for you; do not enter into disbelief? Yet they would still learn from them the charm by which they could create discord between husband and wife. And the fact of the matter is that they can harm none with what they learnt except by God's permission. [They knew that full well] and [still] they would learn that which would not profit them but what would harm them; yet they knew that anyone who buys such things has no share in the life to come. Vile is that for which they have sold their souls, if they but knew it!

Magic isn't considered a sin..., IT IS a SIN! (Sin is the breaking of God's law) Magic is altering the outside appearance and hindering the function of natural process, by manipulation and contrivance and deceit to make a thing or situation APPEAR to be different. It is for the purpose of control and domination. Magic has nothing to do with substance, truth, legitimacy, honesty or reality. All "magic craft" is a "work of the flesh" and has nothing to do with God or the cause or affect that comes from the inside of our God-given spirit. It IS from the world and ruler of darkness!
