I haven't been doing work that requires dressy heeled shoes in a few years. I've outgrown my professional shoes. Can I wear loafers or short heeled boots with slacks to my interview for a receptionist position tomorrow? Or should I just spend some of my rent $$ to buy a pair or heels pumps?

Go ahead & wear the boots/slacks. Loafers wouldn't look right & only dip into your rent $ if you absolutely have to. Could you borrow a pair of professional shoes from a friend for a day?

The short heeled boots would probably be OK, although a skirt would be better than slacks. I'd stay away from the loafers for an interview.

If your shoes are close toed or the boots are inside the pants wear them. You don't need to wear heals, borrowing some pumps from a friend would save you some money and you only need them for an hour.

. This probably won't be your last interview. You should buy some modest, 'sensible' shoes. GoodWill sells nice shoes for under $5. .
