No, for I wouldn't have understood and yes, you would've been reported, hon.

Inhofe Amdt. No. 1151; To amend title 4, United States Code, to declare English as the national language of the Government of the United States, and for other purposes.

That was the only part of the shamnesty bill I supported..that amendment passed the Senate.

What the hell is wrong with you? Scroll to the bottom of this page; Yahoo TOS don't prohibit every language except English, they simply ask that the questions be posted in the correct forums. I understand that you don't want to hear any language that you don't understand (i.e. "yet respecting the individuals rights to speak whatever they choose amongst family or friends?") but that is not justification for a national language. This "question" did nothing to prove your point but it did prove how misguided you are.

Whether formerly declared by Congress or not, English is the National language of the United States. In the Navy, our military law gave credence to long standing naval traditions that by their common recognition and usage bear the weight of law. This is no different. You can go to any country in the world and conduct a poll as to what the national language of the United states of America is, and the results would be an overwhelming "English" (Except in the UK, where they insist that we do not speak the Queen's English, so they would likely say "American"). Should Congress make an amendment declaring the National Language as English, absolutely, and as soon as they do, quit spending Billions in foreign language signage, forms, translators etc. I have traveled the world, and did not find a large amount of information available in English, nor did I expect their citizens to speak English (Except when I was in Gibraltar), as I was a guest in their country and respected their culture, their language, their laws and their customs. I do not think it unreasonable for the citizens of the United States to expect the same.

It's called the free market. If you posted in Swahili, you would not have gotten the answer you were looking for. So you post in English, and get the answer. Simple, right? Yahoo can set whatever TOS they want.

You need to understand that we all need to speak English in the United States. By pandering to the other cultures and other languages with bi-lingual education, we are truly hurting the immigrants. If we want them to work in hotel kitchens, clean toilets, meat packing plants, landscapers, roofers, etc, then make sure they do not learn English. They will never find a way out of the lowest paying jobs until they learn English.

I would've answered your question, just not in Swahili. We don't need a national language. It's moronic to think that just because there is a "national language" that suddenly everyone will start speaking it and communication will improve. People should be allowed to say whatever they want, wherever they want, in whatever language they want. Stop trying to censor people.

Every country has a culture and a language. We have American culture and speak American which is short for American-English.
If anyone says otherwise they have an agenda and it's probably of foreign origin.

Pssh. Look who cares if you speak Swahili. Swahili is a fine language I must say.

This is AMERICA. If the government controls the language I speak I'm gonna sue for discrimination and besides. Do you want 45 million Latinos to sue the US government???

I wouldnt have answered you. I wouldn't have reported you. I would have ignored you.

And your point is lost on me.

And PS--If I did report you (which I didn't and I won't) it would be for not posting a legitimate question and for playing childish mind games on YA.

I shoot dogs, there are Yahoo boards in other languages, it is done for expediency not because Yahoo prefers English. There are boards on Yahoo answers in other languages and you can't post in English on those boards.
