Talladega Speedway property was at one time sacred land for the Creek Indians. When General Andrew Jackson led troops against the Indians(native Americans) at the battle of Horseshoe Bend Fought the Indians in the area what is now Talladega.
In legend the Medicine Stood upon a hill and told the soldiers that this land would forever be cursed. The hill in question was used to make the banks of the speedway. And in some of the folk lore of the Creek and Lower band of Cherokee the say that the medicine man spoke to drivers at the track.
Bobby Isaac was leading at the Talladega race when he said he heard a voice and the which told him to stop or face the consequences. So he pulled off the track, stopped the car and got out.THat was in August of 1973.He was driving a car for Bud Moore.
