I am making my own wedding invitations and I was just curious of how to make the background image softer or lighter or whatever so that the words will not be able to be seen! If anybody has any ideas please let me know!

Try using 2 different types of paper. For example you can use cardstock for the background and then print the words on a vellum, which is a see through type of paper, but it is not clear it is usually cloudly. That would make the background softer and the words really stand out. You could also print the images in black and white and have the words bold black. Tie it together with some ribbon and it really looks fancy, and not that expensive. Your local office supply store should have the paper and be able to do the printing for you.

Good luck!

First poster is right...without knowing what program you are using it's hard to tell. Search the Help and find out how to change the opacity of the picture. If you are in photoshop or illustrator just make it about 50% and you will get the washed out look you are talking about.

If you don't have a photo program and are just making the invites in word or something print the text on a seperate sheet of vellum and place it in front of the picture.

Depending on the program you can usually layer the images so that they can be selected separately -- then you can lower the saturation. (I know Publisher and PhotoshopElements can do this)

depends what software program you are using.

if you can adjust the 'brightness' and 'contrast' - go for a high brightness & low contrast to get a lighter-looking picture.
