CKC is generally used by puppy-millers who have been banned from AKC.

The AKC (American Kennel Club) is a legitimate registry.
http://www.akc.org/
The CKC (Continental Kennel Club) is a WORTHLESS registry, they will register anything. It's a scam. Puppymillers frequently use this registry. It's NOT LEGIT!
http://www.continentalkennelclub.com/
Even mutts can get registered with CKC provided you can have 2 witnesses to claim the dog purebred, this is one of their registration 'rules' from their website:
"Dogs over 6 months of age which have no previous Registration history may be registered by providing 2 witness signatures attesting to the purebred status of the dog along with 3 photos (front,left and right) of the dog to confirm it is ‘of proper breed"
If you are talking about the Canadian Kennel Club (also abbreviated CKC), that is a legitimate registry. It is equivalent to the AKC in the United States.

The Canadian Kennel Club and the American Kennel Club both recognize each other as being on equal footing. (Although when breeding an AKC dog to a CKC dog, there are some hoops to jump through to getting the puppies registered.)
Here is my dog's pedigree as an example of Canadian Kennel Club registered dogs getting incorporated into AKC registration:

To register a dog with AKC, both parents must also be AKC registered dogs. AKC also does DNA testing of frequently used sires and they also do inspections. AKC sponsors dog shows all over the country. The dogs you see at Westminster and Eukanuba are all AKC registered dogs. No other registry has the history and prestige that AKC has.
CKC will let you register just about anything that looks like the breed you claim it is - which is why people use CKC. All you need is two photos. They do not do DNA testing or inspections. There is a big difference between the two registries.

Continental kennel club is for back yard breeders and millers. No reputable breeder uses this registry. Its fairly easy to get this registry, from what I understand, and they also register mixes and designer breeds.. and its merely there so people can say their dog has "papers".. because people believe that papers mean quality.
If one parent is AKC and the other is CKC, you can only get a CKC registration. For a dog to be AKC registered, both parents must be AKC. AKC does offer a foreign registration, where a dog with a foreign registry can get AKC registered, but only certain registries are accepted, and continental kennel club is not one of them.
APR/APRI is the same thing as continental kennel club.. no reputable breeder uses them.. only back yard breeders and millers so they can claim their puppies are "papered"

AKC (American Kennel Club) is a MUCH better registry. CKC (Continental Kennel Club) will register ANYTHING. People can register mutts with CKC as all it takes is two other people's signature (this can be ANYONES signature).
If you breed AKC to CKC, you can ONLY register with CKC. AKC will not accept it. Go to AKC.org and read their breeding rules. While AKC does not mean "higher quality", it does guarantee a 100% PURE bred as they require DNA testing of males.

Wrong both NKC (National Kennel Club) and CKC (Continental Kennel Club) and APRI, and UKCI (Universal Kennel Club Inc) and many more are ALL sham puppy mill/BYB registries that are not worth squat. You're male is not breeding worthy so you might as well get him neutered and not use him as an ATM, all you will get is bottom of the barrel crap bitches. ALL of those sham registries do NOT come even close to AKC. AKC is the only reputable all-breed registry in the US. CanKC in Canada is reputable and has a reciprocal agreement with AKC. United Kennel Club used to be in the ranks so to speak but not since they started to register and refuse to stop registering mutts as american pit bull terriers. NKC and ConKC papers are worthless. Only thing they are good for is lining litter boxes or toilet paper. Neither NKC NOR ConKC NOR APRI NOR UKCI etc etc have reciprocal agreements with AKC NOR CanKC.

akc = American Kennel Club {meaning must be born in USA to be AKC registered!}
ckc = Canadian Kennel Club {meaning must be born in Canada to be CKC registered!}
However there is a sneaky registry out there that will register anything on four legs called the ckc = continental kennel club
Canadian KC and AKC are much more reputable.
I deal with the APR; which many people love and many do not. Personal Opinion I guess.

Well, since ckc is preferred in your area I would register it as ckc. All of my dogs are AKC breed and registered. I don't see much difference between the American Kennel Club and Continental Kennel Club. AKC costs a little more. But you may double register if you'd like.
SO What's The Difference????
1. AKC has been around a lot longer - they recognize 150 breeds.
CKC has only been around for 10 yrs.
2. AKC has dog shows and that is how you get a Champion.
CKC is working on starting shows.
3. CKC is easier to deal with and cost less to register.
But AKC is better recognized and their strict standards are not really a bad thing in my opinion.

The CKC (Continental Kennel Club) is not only newer, they don't even qualify as a registry to me. They register anything, including mix breeds. It's just a way for millers to have 'papers' on their dogs...meaningless papers.
Here's a link, towards the middle and bottom of page.

CKC is NOT a reputable registry...it is what is known as a scam registry..it is a registry used by people who have dogs that can't be registered in a reputable registry...not really purebred, came from unregistered parents,owners suspended from doing business with a reputable registry, etc...in otherwords it is a registry for BYB and puppy mill peopel..it is best to stay as far away from these types of registries as possible and not encourage irresponsible breeding & breeders.
Some other scam registries are ACA, APR,Universial Kennel Club, Canine Kennel Club, World Wide Kennel Club.
