No. Never breed to merles together. The puppies won't come out merle and the genes are to close. Maybe uhh rescue another one? or don't breed? if you don't have homes for any of the puppies, don't breed cuz then they will end up in shelters. If you do have homes though, breed, it's fun. Just don't breed the 2 merles.

No. Breeding merle to merle can result in puppies that are born deaf, blind, deaf and blind, or even worse MISSING eyes, ears, or other body parts! If you just "kinda rescued" this dog, what makes you think he is worth breeding? Did he come from a reputable breeder who breeds for health and temperament? Do you know what genetic weaknesses or strengths his parents, grandparents, etc carry? Do you know the genetic strengths or weaknesses that your female carries? There are plenty of Aussies out there in desperate need of homes. If your dogs don't have stellar qualities (and we're not talking about just temperament here) and great genetic backgrounds, please leave the breeding to those who are breeding to better the breed.

They say you should always breed a merle to a non-merle to avoid zygote lethality. You will loose about a fourth of your litter the other way, but you may never know because they will die early and never develop. And merle aussies will not end up in a shelter unless there are major behavioral problems.

Absolutely not. While it might be possible to breed the tri and merle there are still some risks to the pups. Type in double merle into google and you will see the pain it causes.

I know of a dog that was the result of breeding two merle aussies and he is deaf. He was one of the lucky ones. Many puppies of his kind can be born deaf AND blind. Many times when this happens they will become very aggresive. I know of an agressive dog right now that my friend is caring for and she is not easy to have around.

NO! That is a double merle and you can have deafness and blindness among other problems. If you don't know these things, you need to learn before you go creating problems you are not prepared to handle.

Not to mention having 1/4 of the litter disabled, this is against the code of ethics. This means if you ever want to get into the clubs and groups of reputable breeders you will likely be blackballed .......
