I like the combo of beef and sausage. I would do the standard meat loaf. Saute some chopped onion just until the onion is translucent, for the last minute throw in some minced garlic. I like to also saute some minced carrot with the oinions but that's up to you. Remove heat and let cool until you can touch it. Add to meats with either prepared bread crumbs or homemade bread crumbs. (hint: if making your own, put sliced bread into a toaster and toast until it stiffens but does not turn brown. Crumble and add to your loaf). Add one egg and mix all together well. I would put half of this mixture into a loaf pan then place cheese over the top of that and then top the cheese with the remaining meat mixture. Any kind of cheese will do, provolone or swiss would be my first choices. As an option you can add sliced hard boiled egg instead of the cheese or be daring and add both. As for amounts of ingredients I just eyeball them. After all you know how much you like a particular ingredient. For example, I always add more garlic because I love it.
Good eating!

For the all-important "meat" part of your meatloaf, pure ground beef may be the standard, but you could also use any combination of ground beef, pork, turkey, veal, lamb, chicken or sausage. Add fresh or dry bread crumbs, seasoned stuffing mix, crushed crackers, rolled oats, textured vegetable protein or bulgur that's been plumped in warm water.
In the vegetable department, try:
Grated carrots or potatoes
Diced onions, celery, or bell peppers
Chopped tomatoes or spinach
Asparagus spears
Minced garlic
Canned, roasted, or fresh chiles
Corn kernels
Dry soup mixes or dry salad dressing mixes.
Try a little crumbled blue cheese or feta, or grate some Parmesan or Cheddar into the mix. Toss in one or two of your favorite condiments to boot: ketchup, mustard, steak sauce and Worcestershire are just the beginning! Don't forget the fresh or dried herbs; a little spice is nice, too. For really juicy meatloaf, mix in about 1/4 cup of liquid such as broth, vegetable juice, tomato sauce, wine, beer or milk. Add a beaten egg to help bind the mixture.
I am not sure what you have on hand so here is a suggestion list. Whenever I make meatloaf I don't use a recipe, I just throw in whatever I want or need to eat. Within limits but I always, when there is about ten minutes left for the meatloaf to cook, spread a coat of ketchup on the top as a glaze of some sort. I like the look of being able to tell which end was up and the taste is good too.

I just bought this community church cookbook and they have this recipe for a meatloaf that I cant wait to try. It sounds unique and different. I am going to try it tonight. Here is the recipe. Clare's meatloaf 1/2 c. Grape-Nuts cereal 1 pound hamburger 1/4 c. chopped onion 1/2 c. water 1 egg, slightly beaten 1/2 tsp. salt Mix Grape Nuts and water; let stand for 2-3 minutes. Combine rest of ingredients; mix well. In a greased pan, shape into loaf. Bake one hour at 350'. To get moist loaf, cover with aluminum foil for first 30 minutes and then remove. EDIT: I made this meatloaf tonight and it was really delicious and VERY moist. I baked my meatloaf for 50 minutes instead of an hour. So you may need to adjust the time for your meatloaf. I also made a gravy using the pan drippings. My family loved it. This recipe is definitely a keeper. I think next time I make it I am going to add Italian Seasoning to it.

1/2 pound sausage ground
1/2 pound ground beef
2-3 eggs
12-16 saltine crackers (till sticking together)
1/2 tsp parsley
1/2 tsp salt (to taste)
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
1 med can tomato sauce or 1/2 cup ketchup
garlic powder (add to taste)
onion powder or 1/2 onion
Preheat oven to 400 degrees (rack on middle shelf)
Make sure the meat is well defrosted
put meat in a bowl add all above ingredients except crackers. Mix everything with your hands. Once well mixed it will be kind of soupy then you add crackers till the meat loaf sticks together. Put the meat loaf in an aluminum pan and cover with ketchup or tomato sauce (this will be extra).
Cover and put in oven for about 40 minutes. Check by cutting in half and making sure meat looks cooked. Cook for an additional 15 min uncovered.
You can serve this with green beans and baked potatoes or salad.

2 lb. hamburger meat
1 small onion chopped
2 eggs whole
2-3 slices of bread
Wet bread with water and tear apart into small chunks. Add a regular size jar of Ragu mushrooms and green peppers (or your choice). Mix all ingredients well and put into an ovenproof dish.
Bake at 450°F about 35 mintues.
Remove from oven and add honey bbq sauce on top, enough to spread over top. Return to oven and cook on broil for 5 minutes longer; just enough to brown the top of the sauce.
A few slices of fresh green pepper rings or onion rings may be put on the top of the meatloaf for decoration.
Let cool and serve.

If you want a super easy recipe....all you have to do is go get those packets of meatloaf powder seasoning. Add that to the meat. You can add bread or crackers, if you want. And onions, in my book, are always a must. Put some ketchup in ontop and stick 'er in the oven.
