Added details- I am flying to the wedding, actually across an international border, which is why I do not want to carry a present. I am close to my niece, and was thinking of $200 - $300, but I am not quite sure if that is too little or too much.

Depends on how close you are and how far you traveled for the wedding. If you had to fly to get there and/or paying for a hotel room I think that coming is part of your gift. I received $100 from my aunt who flew in from out of town and who didn't have a lot of money and $250 from my aunt who was local and had more disposable income. That is probably typical.

Gift For Niece

It really depends on your financial circumstances. And your niece probably has a fair idea of what your circumstances are. I'd say $100 would be minimal. Above that, there really isn't a limit. But if you give more than you can afford, your niece will likely realize it, be embarrassed, and be torn as to whether to accept it. If you truly can afford it, $200-$300 sounds generous without being over the top.

Ettiquette dictates that you should give a gift that is equivalent to the cost to the couple to host you as a guest. So you could probably find out what they are paying per head and then round up to the nearest whole amount. If you don't want to do that, then go by the tone of the wedding. If it is a large, elaborate affair, no less than $100. If it is smaller, more intimate, not as fancy, then $50-75 would be fine. Generally, it costs $50-$100 a head to throw a wedding. If you are close to your niece, then by all means, give more. We received everything from the range of $250-$5000 from our close family members, and that was in November. Good luck.

Wow, $200-$300, would you be my aunt?

Seriously I think she is lucky to have an aunt like you who obviously cares a lot about her neice.

I would suggest looking at her registry and then planning on giving her some money that may get her a few things. I would say $100-$150 if you can afford it.
I am sure that having you there will mean a lot to her and whatever you decide will be great!

Good luck!

You are very generous! Your niece will appreciate the effort you are making to attend her special day from such a long distance. I think $100 is a wonderful gift. If your budget allows for a larger monetary gift, I am sure that she will be touched by your momentous gesture.

NO LESS than $100 dollars if you are attending the wedding with a husband or guest.

I would add about $50 per person extra if you have kids that are coming.

If you aren't going to the wedding I would still send $100.

Sounds like a good price. That is what my uncle gave us for our wedding. He gave us cash to spend on our honeymoon. Some say cash isnt a good gift, but we got to buy what we wanted with it, and wouldnt have been able to shop as much without it:)
Maybe you could get them a matching set of jewlery.

Umm too much. I was going to say $50 is enough, but definitely $100 would be more than sufficient considering you are also attending the wedding.
