My 18th month old has been going poo on the potty consistentily for a month now. He always tells me mommy me poopy which means he has to go. However, he does not tell me when he has to pee? Any advice? Should i try big boy underwear now or is it too early, we still use diapers.

That's great! I would not try underwear yet- sometimes when you push too hard they regress. You should keep the diapers or try pull-ups but take him with you into the bathroom every time you go and when he wants to go. Make it very fun when he sits on the potty. My son and I would dance and sing EVERY time. Then, I told him that when he turned 2 it was time to get rid of the diapers and use big boy underwear. It worked- I never had problems. He had a few accidents, but it was a very easy and natural transition. Good luck!

My 21 month old is basically the same except he'll pee on the potty any time we put him on it. We've put him in underwear and we just bring him to the toilet often. He is sometimes able to tell us when he needs to pee. The peeing part is much harder to master because it's less obvious than the feeling of needing to poo. Also at 18 mos their bladders are so small they urinate frequently. You can try the underwear but there will be lots of accidents which means laundry. You may want to wait it out though.

For now, be happy that he has his bowel movements on the potty. He's still a little young to be completely trained but he's doing well at his age to use the potty as he does. In time, he'll let you know when he has to pee, then you can buy him some Pull Ups to wear & praise him & tell him that the Pull Ups are for big boys like him.

you can take him when you go pee so that he may get the idea. its ok don't rush him to pee he will get it eventually. its good that he can poo at 18 months

i would continue to use diapers i think they have those cool zone diapers that may help him

the fact that he does poo on it is a great start for that age. for now just encourage that and start pees when hes older rather than rush both at once.

That is great! Give him a try. What is the worst that can happen? He sounds like a smart child and he will learn quickly.. If not, put him back in the pampers.
