NO. they may not give up custody for the sole purpose of enlisting, and they may not regain custody at all during the first term of enlistment.

They can enlist in the Reserves with a Family Care Plan in effect.

Yes!! You will have to fill out a "Family Care Plan". Everyone has to do this not just single parents. It basically tells the AF who will take care of your child/children while you are gone. You don't have to give up custody or anything like that. The AF just wants to make sure that your children will be taken care of while you are at Basic, Tech school, and when you are deployed. I've know many single parents (both moms and dads) in the AF and no one takes care of families like the Air Force.

yes....why should being a single parent impose as a reason why you cannot join the airforce....however know this before joining anything the parent should be well aware of the time and commitment needed for them to join such an instituition and must think over very carefully the sacrifies or measures they have to take (for eg. needing someone to look after their children when they go into training etc etc), in order for them to join in

Sure - but they ought to think about it before making such a commitment.

Case in point - During Desert Storm I met a female GySgt on her way to Okinawa for an extended deployment. She was leaving her kid behind because she had no choice, and having no family, she was paying out-of-pocket for child care while she was deployed.

She just couldn't turn around and say I'm not going cause I'm a single parent and have a kid to raise. It doesn't work like that in the military. The military expected her to fulfill her duty and obligations and she did - but what a cost to her and her kid.

I am not sure about the Air Force, but I know they can in the Army, so it stands a good chance they can in the AF as well. During basic training and your job training, however, you will need to sign over custody of your child to another guardian. When you graduate you can take custody back. There were several girls I was in basic with who's children were under their parents custody just until they graduated.

Yes they can. But they must have someone who will keep guardianship of thier children while they are in the service. This doesnt mean the kids cant live with the single parent-they can but there must be someone else to take the children at virtually a moments notice.

you may ought to get married first (does not must be the daddy). i do no longer comprehend the Air stress's coverage on single mothers and dads to boot that they at the instant are not allowed in the event that they have custody yet interior the army you are able to no longer connect in case you have comprehensive or partial custody. it fairly is no longer unlawful for somebody to provide up custody for the only objective of turning right into a member of yet recruiters are not allowed to propose that they do. additionally, in the event that they did provide up custody (must be executed by utilising courtroom order, a capacity of criminal expert or letter pointing out who's staring at them isn't adequate) then they could't regain custody till the final touch of their first enlistment. there is not any such ingredient as giving up custody for guidance and then getting your babies lower back as quickly as you get on your first accountability station. you may ought to get with a Air stress recruiter to work out their exact coverage yet i will permit you comprehend that as of exact now you're quickly disqualified from enlistment in all centers. you are going to be able to desire to consistently look at your innovations if there's no longer something the Air stress can do for you because all centers grant guidance advantages. 3 thumbs down? wager human beings do no longer think of i comprehend what i'm speaking approximately. perhaps they ought to Google the guidelines for single mothers and dads, which shows that a courtroom-order is had to coach they don't have custody.

I suppose, but I would think that temporary custody would need to be awarded to a third party, if this were allowed to happen !

I don't know if they can, but why would they? Isn't there the chance of them being sent overseas, or onto bases (posts?) where they can't have family members living with them?

Why would you subject your family to that lifestyle? Life is hard enough as it is.
