she told me we needed a break, i miss interpreted this as she was going to finish with me gently, so i went out and had aone night stand which i now totally regret, and realised that is not what she wanted to do with finishing

She's letting you down gently. She's not sure you are the one and probably needs to get out there and try a few more before deciding. I know it's a harsh answer. If she meets some major idiots in your time apart she may realise what she's had and come running back and you will live happily ever after. Sometimes us girls don't want the nice guy even though we know they are the best thing for us and until we have been treated like s**t a few times by the use and abuse em lot we really don't appreciate the good ones.... If she's worth waiting for hang on a little while.... but not too long.... don't look like a doormat!

Basically it's a let down line, and one that I can't stand to hear because it means you have no input/control in the situation. Last time I heard that was 21st November last year, and we're still not talking.
Why the hell can't women/girls just be straight with people? Enough of the pathetic blagging and excuses and just give a straight YES or NO answer!
"Oh but they're letting you down gently"
No they bloody aint, it actually hurts more to hear that rubbish than it does to be told straight.

Its a nice way of breaking up...You see we tend to let you down easily and clean it up the ouch with a "I need time" line. So it could mean forever or best thing to do is to not call. This will give us chicks time to reflect and think if we should come back, and to also well basically let us wonder why you arent calling back, and bugging us to get back with you. So it can go either way. So I recommend you just cut the biotch off and take it like a man when it comes to the outcome.

Why do guys always misunderstand a "break" as a "break-up"? Anyway, you should ask her how much time she needs and give her as long as she says she needs alone. Women tend to lose themselves in relationships; we become so engrossed in the lives of our men. The break is just to make sure that there is a "ME" and that "I" have not disappeared.

You better hope she never finds out you did someone else or it will definately be over!
I think you guys have issues she needs to sort thru.
You should have asked her to be blunt about her feelings on the subject before you decided some other person looked attractive, there are always consequences in life.
I hope yours don't come back to haunt you.

Youve got to be honest with her, living a lie isnt a good way to start a relationship, she might not like it, but if you explain everything, you never know, she might even be..well....slightly uplifted that you decided to stand up and tell her, just take it easy....relationships canbe hard, you both need trust, love and friendship. Good luck!

i personally think give her a week and call her, not to find out if you can get back together- just ask her how she's doing...
i personally did this in the past because i wanted to know if my guy cared about me.
just my opinion. everyone is different.

As much as she needs. Some women need days, some need years. Just tell her you respect her needs, and ask her to let you know when she is ready.

It's a let down line - she needs as much time as it takes to find someone else... if she comes back it's because she coudn't find someone - and you deserve better than that.

It's usually a let down. It sometimes can really mean she just needs time.
