The Bible states inProverbs 18:2, that "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit."
Can you believe that my mom used to read this psalm for my father everytime he hits her. I really dont think she realized what she was doing. But she actually reeked havoc on our family, Literally!
Thank God I escaped through Jesus.
I started reading the same psalm out of curiousity and had to stop because it was very scarey. I certainly wouldnt wish these things on my worst enemy!
Here's a part of it, read and see for yourselves
6Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.
7When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.
8Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
9Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
10Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.

CHRIS J-I know why this scrupture was written and by whom. My point is that people's words( especially those of a Christian) can actually affect changes in our lives. Dont you know that when you speak your words are directed to spirits in the atmosphere that actually act upon them. That is why a Christian a can call on God and Angels come to their rescue. Dont you believe in the power of creative words. An excellent example is shown where Jesus cursed the fig tree in Matthew 21:19-22. We should be careful of what we say to people.

Your question sounds like a good example of how not to use the Holy Bible. Your father shouldn't have been hitting your mother, for sure; and your mother shouldn't have been using the Holy Bible as a way to retaliate, especially by using it to curse someone. Everyone gets to live and learn though.
But to answer your question, Psalm 109 is regarding what happens to the Messiah (not David) when he shows up. People will be against him, and resort to lying to prove him wrong, and their selves right. Of course, we all know what happens to those who do that, and there is a stern warning against lying about other people. Their reward is pointed out in that chapter, quite eloquently.
Regards,
Chris J

You are quite right about being careful of what we say to people, because people are indeed spirit as well as human bodies.
Maybe Jesus was exaggerating a bit when he said we could make mountains jump into the sea though. Perhaps he was making a metaphor involving the notion that we create our future? If so, then he was right, and saying bad things to people will often create a negative future for ourselves.
On the other hand, pointing out undesirable behavior, in a positive way can be quite beneficial for all parties involved.
It's hard to do that sometimes when you're getting the hell beat out of you though. And as your story pointed out quite clearly, no one can call on God to save them from other people, Christian or otherwise. Scripture points out quite clearly that we can follow God's Word and live in harmony with other people, or we can kill each other.
It appears that Christians and the rest of the Western World would rather kill each other though, for some odd reason.
May God Bless you and your family.
Regards,
Chris

You do know that Peter quoted from this Psalm when talking about Judas Iscariot don't you?
Acts 1:16 "Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. 17 For he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry." 18 (Now this man bought a field with the reward of his wickedness, and falling headlong he burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out. 19 And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the field was called in their own language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) 20 "For it is written in the Book of Psalms, "'May his camp become desolate, and let there be no one to dwell in it'; and "'Let another take his office.'
As to your mother, she would have been better off praying for your father and applying this passage to her life.
1 Peter 3:1 Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives-- 2 when they see your respectful and pure conduct. 3 Do not let your adorning be external--the braiding of hair, the wearing of gold, or the putting on of clothing-- 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.

Psalms 109 seems to be a foreshadow of what will fall upon the wicked in the last days. I have NOT studied this chapter in any depth. I am only speculating.
Keep searching for the truth.
GOD bless

You say Proverbs 18:2 says "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit."
My Bible Proverbs 18:2 says " A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

Psalm 139 - very very own Psalm fifty one - a message to sparkling up ourselves and our courting with God, and the end result it has on the international around us, And on the 2nd Psalms fifty 4, and 103, as we are suffering with relatively undesirable flu and it relatively is whats retaining us going ! Hallelujah ! Edit : Toof faerie, attempt to work out you "generic" psalm verse in its context, its hassle-free to take one verse and attempt to throw it lower back. similar to fixing a vehicle utilising a handbook, yet merely utilising a tiny piece of the instructions, then questioning why it does not artwork ! The Psalms replicate numerous non-public emotions, and relatively which one human beings has by no skill cursed yet another as a results of suffering that they have got led to us ? it relatively is the comprehensive thing with regard to the learn of Psalms, they conceal the comprehensive selection of human emotion, to boot as a results of fact the bits in between the place the author explores his faith and courting along with his writer.

Verse 31 makes it clear that the writer (David) is speaking of his unrepentant enemies and himself as a faithful servant. If they too would see the light from the sins that have condemned them God would grant them the same.
"For he stands at the right hand of the needy one,
to save his life from those who condemn him."

I love it, it is one of my favorites.
This Psalm, as well as Psalm 69, contain some of the strongest imprecations against the enemies of God and His children in the entire Bible. Thank you so much for these wonderful verses and the question!
