She's deeply depressed & can barely get out of bed, & she has a research paper due tomorrow. She's very anxious about it & feels like she can't do it. Telling her that something is better than nothing & that it's not that bad isn't sinking in because she wants the paper to be perfect, but she has it stuck in my mind, "I know I'm gonna fail so it's pointless & a waste of time to do the paper".

I don't believe you can motivate someone who is depressed. I have suffered from depression myself. Her anxiety is just paralyzing her.

Try offering to sit with her and then help her go step by step on the paper. You don't have to do it for her, just encourage her to do each step.

If there any possibility that her doctor or therapist can give her a medical excuse for that paper - maybe ask for an extension? This is a very real illness.

God Bless her and keep her well.

offer to her that you will go over and help her with the paper. tell her she really should do it and you will help and be supportive. she has worked hard and its not worth it now to give it all up. tell her that it is better to do the paper and get a grade than a complete zero. she WILL do well. tell her that and if she doesn't, then she did as best as she could have. best of luck to you. your a good friend.

Well you're kinda saying the worst possible things...

"it's not that bad"

to a depressed person is pretty much

"wow, I refuse to believe that you're depressed, i'm pretty much trying to cover it up and lie to you saying it's ok when you obviuosly think it isn't."

You gotta embrace (weird word to use...embrace...sorry I wish I had a better word to use) the fact that shes depressed and work w/ it.

Just let her be depressed, you see, because the body is wired for survival and not happiness, depression is a way of the body saying "hey you, slow down, be carful and re-asses your life." Give her time to work her way out of it. It's necessary.

But that in mind, there are people who need medication to get un-depressed but the majority of people just get depresse donce, bear it out and then are fine for their life.

It's only one paper =)

Tell her about law of attraction and manifestion. What you think about, you will attract. This is real.

If she makes such affirmation as above, then she will fail, Why spend the time thinking about failure when she can spend the time thinking about passing with excellence.

What good will it achieve by focusing on the NEGATIVE?

Only she can help herself , no one else can and that begins with knowing how energies work, whether positive or negative ones. I also study healing so i know

You can't she has to do her own motivate herself, she would need to talk with someone depression is a very bad thing and she needs to get some type of help so it doesn't get here she hurts herself. she maybe mad at you but she needs help it doesn't mean she is crazy it means that she just has to talk about what is really bothering her it maybe serious. good luck.

tell the mom or if you are the mom go tell the teacher what is happening and go to the teacher and tell the teacher whats going on. She won't fail if you tell whats going on. Then she needs to get a therapist or something because she sounds very depressed

Just be a friend and try to talk to her. If you're pushy about it she may reject you. Be supportive and extremly positive.

Best way to motivate sulkers is to ignore them and encourage them to fail. They are suckers for reverse psychology but you must apply pressure. Invite them out to parties and vacations etc. Works every time.
