Some sections of the media can rightly be accused of sensationalising the effects of global warming. It's not unusual for a scientific report to say one thing and for the media to interpret it in such a way that it appears more dramatic than it really is. Beleive me, I know from first hand experience and it's not something that happens every once in a while either.

Global warming is a serious issue and there are many adverse consequences related to the climate change it causes. However, we are not all going to die.

Many people have died, the figure runs into the millions but most of these deaths have occured in Africa and Asia, the two continents that are most at risk from the effects of climate change. The World Health Organisation calculated that by 2000 there were 150,000 deaths a year from global warming, they released a figure of 300,000 a year by 2030 and it's expected that a million a year will die by the end of the century.

In America and Europe we are largely shielded from the effects of climate change and have the finances, resources and ability to stave off many of the consequences. For example, if thre's a drought as a result of climate change and the crops fail we simply import foodstuffs whereas in Africa this isn't an option and famine ensues.

Global warming isn't a lost cause and there are many people around the world working on solutions to the problem. These approaches are wide ranging and varied, some use natural processes whereas others use chemical or mechanical processes. However, we do need to act quickly if we are to prevent things from getting considerably worse in the future. In the meantime, we can all help to slow down the effects by reducing our consumption of fossil fuels and other products, reusing and recycling where possible and showing a little more consideration for the planet.

It's not too late to act and we do have the technology to make a difference.

Even the skeptics know global warming is a real thing, because the earth has been going through natural warming and cooling cycles for millions of years. And, now, we have man adding to the natural effect.

So, yes, global warming is going to happen no matter what we do ... it happened before man was on earth. But, we all aren't doomed, because much of the planet will still be habitable. Keep in mind that even in the worst case estimate, the average temperature of the earth will rise no more than 10 degrees. Some parts of the earth will become deserts with that increase. But, others will be more habitable (Greenland, for example). In other words, the entire human race won't die out, but life will be very different.

Global warming is real a danger now... not in 100 years... recent changes are a direct result of this and will get worse before it gets better...
I read a report that said if all forms of man-made causes were instantly stopped the effects would still be felt for 100 years... we have done a lot of damage worse is the legacy that we are leaving our children... from increased skin cancer, cancers, to massive extinction of animals and plants, entire eco- systems, please remember that the chain either up or down is not far from mankind, many falsely believe that the extinction of a species of insect in X country has little effect on us, wrong... many a food and foodstuffs comes globally, if a natural bug predator is destroyed the prey soon overruns its habitat and can be easily spread across other zones that have/had no predators.. several fish species are doing just that along with nearly 2 dozen insects today. we all see the effects on climate... although many just overlook this fact that coastal waters are rising, deserts increasing and crops failings around the world.

some perhaps overzealous folks believe that the end of life on earth is not far off... with that these folks forget about the restorative factors that earth and its eco-systems have these are trully amazing and cannot be taken lightly... I tend to be optomistic and believe that there will be dramatic changes in the next 5-10 years, both pro and con, the earth will teach us how to help her heal and we will learn and adapt... we will survive and the earth will be as we all better for it.

global warming will never be a lost cause unless everyone on this planet stops caring...

people should be made aware of how they are contributing to global warming - no matter how big or small the parts they play - and be informed of what effects this phenomenon will bring about if left unchecked...

you're right, global warming is a reality, and we should all begin to take steps to stop it from getting worse...

each and every one of us can make a difference if only we start acting NOW

If you think we are all doomed then whats your point ? Why aren't you out partying like there's no tomorrow instead of being in hear talking to us ?

You must see some hope there somewhere but the clock is ticking and allot of people are suffering from pathological skepticism.

Ive been hear for a long time getting old don't think I'm going to be privileged to see what the outcome is . Good luck to all of you I think now would be a good time for everyone start pulling together even if its all a hoax just take control of your lives and work together

As usual American and UK scientist are years behind Slovak high school children who ride the short yellow bus.. It is wildly known here this green house global heating hot warming is cause by humans but not of this era. UFO is nothing more than a fancy time machine transporting human 5 million years from the future. They cause this warming heating hot greenhouse to off set the coming massive ice age. Contrails containing massive amounts of carbon are ways these future freakish types peoples control the green house effect. They also gave us VHS tapes, sugar-free sweeteners and 3D-glasses that enabled us to see movies in 3D cinema..

i am the biggest geek of global warming and saving our planet i think if we find an alternative source of fuel then our lives might be spared and we would have to recycle a lot more then we do now. we have to worry about all living organisms not just ourselves (we have to act now b 4 it is too late and the poor animals in the Arctic regions and extinct) but all in all if we dont do anything at all we are all doomed to die.....yes

No, it's not a lost cause. We are seeing effects of global warming and they will continue. However, the severity of them, in the future, can be greatly affected.

Global warming is a natural process for which we shouldn't necessarily spend billions upon billions to try and reverse. That said, no one can argue with wanting to breathe cleaner air and reduce emissions where possible and practical.

If the billions spent on global warming research had been directed to aiding and investing in infrastructure of third world countries (not simply handouts), we'd have millions fewer famine deaths on our hands - simple math that even Al Gore can't dispute.

Yeah well I think that we are doomed! just think of it as a punishment for those who have not listened to us about global warming.
