According to wikipedia the British Royal Navy received 95 corsairs in 1943 for the fleet air arm (FAA) because they needed a high speed, versatile fighter to challenge the Luftwaffe's air superiority. they later received 510 Mk. II models. They used the corsair extensively in the fighter bomber role from 1944 to the end of the war. Like the man above said, corsairs also participated in the raid on the Tirpitz providing escort for the Fairey Swordfish and Firefly.

apparently the corsair was used quite extensively in the European theater by the Brits. Very good question
